CYP Design & Construction Joint Venture (CYP D&C) has been contracted to design and build the tunnels and stations for the Metro Tunnel Project.

CYP D&C brings together three of Australia's leading construction partners John Holland, Lendlease, and Bouygues Construction.

The Metro Tunnel Project will untangle the City Loop by taking three of Melbourne’s busiest train lines through a new tunnel under the city. It will create a new end-to-end train line from Sunbury to Cranbourne/Pakenham, with twin nine-kilometre tunnels and five new underground stations at Arden, Parkville, Anzac, and two new CBD stations - State Library and Town Hall - which will directly connect to the City Loop.

We’re currently recruiting for an analyst to establish and implement GIS workflows and processes that support project objectives and perform spatial data management, and data analysis activities where required.

Contribute to the GIS (Geographic Information Systems) engineering activities, by maintaining design and as-built datasets within web interfaces which support construction activities.

Responsibilities of the role include;

  • Contribute to the GIS (Geographic Information Systems) engineering activities, by maintaining design and as-built datasets within web interfaces which support construction activities.
  • Ensure the GIS requirements from the Project Scope and Technical Requirements are met.
  • Undertake research to support engineering strategies and policies which may include design, procurement and or performing and collating surveys, to implement and support GIS engineering solutions to contribute to the needs of the project.
  • Contribute to aspects of the GIS design processes and identify potential issues for senior staff
  • Prepare technical GIS files which may involve utilising contemporary CAD software technology.
  • Provide technical assistance and perform administrative activities required to implement the different services and giving a good GIS service.
  • Monitor systems, procedures, and equipment to ensure safe engineering practices that are in accordance with the project time and cost, and organisational and legislative standards and requirements.
  • Contribute to the preparation of GIS management plans schedules and the implementation of effective document control as directed, ensuring alignment with company procedures and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Meet with designers, construction, stakeholders as required to support as required with GIS information.
  • Be an active participant in GIS development. Ensure new tools, plug-in or developments are implemented if they suppose a benefit for the project.
  • Publishing GIS data within ArcGIS Portal and maintaining the project Geocortex Website with daily and weekly updates.
  • Ad Hoc Mapping and Spatial analysis as required by the project team.
  • Providing webGIS training to users


To be successful in this key role, you must have:

  • Degree in GIS, Computer Science, Geography, Surveying, Engineering or a related field
  • 5+ Years experience in using GIS in the Infrastructure / Building / Construction field.
  • Good interpersonal skills: the ability deal with stakeholders daily as well as provide face-to-face support for GIS queries.
  • Experience with Esri Desktop Software, primarily ArcMap/ArcGIS Pro and Spatial Analyst and 3D Analyst Extensions.
  • Experience with Esri ArcGIS Enterprise applications including Server, Portal and managing feature services within portal and in SQL Server.
  • Experience with Geocortex Essentials
  • Good mapping experience
  • Good problem solving, technical and analytical skills to support the implementation of organisational policies, procedures and programs and project engineering operations
  • Knowledge of GIS technology and its application to construction activities, estimation, planning & sequencing
