CYP Design & Construction Joint Venture (CYP D&C) has been contracted to design and build the tunnels and stations for the Metro Tunnel Project.


CYP D&C brings together three of Australia's leading construction partners John Holland, Lendlease, and Bouygues Construction.


The Metro Tunnel Project will untangle the City Loop by taking three of Melbourne’s busiest train lines through a new tunnel under the city. It will create a new end-to-end train line from Sunbury to Cranbourne/Pakenham, with twin nine-kilometre tunnels and five new underground stations at Arden, Parkville, Anzac, and two new CBD stations - State Library and Town Hall - which will directly connect to the City Loop.


We are recruiting for a Rail & Tunnel Interface & Logistics Engineer to be primarily responsible for supporting the delivery project managers to ensure all rail and tunnel logistics and interfaces are planned and executed effectively.


Responsibilities of the role include;


  • Support the systems integration with external interfaces for the design and delivery of the project to meet time, budget and quality requirements
  • Resolve problems to ensure the delivery of the desired systems integration (with RIA, RSA, HCMT) outcomes
  • Coordination with the project controls function, in particular the program planners, to ensure the rail and tunnel works are delivered according to plan and reporting accordingly
  • Contribution to the procurement Rail and Tunnel delivery plan, including contracting packaging strategies, and the detailed procurement programme from an interface and logistics perspective
  • Explore project delivery scenarios and provide advice for the team of the preferred approach to de-risk the project or to implement risk mitigation measure
  • Across all project phases: support the identification, capture and management of technical, operational, internal and/or external interfaces (limited to RSA, RIA and HCMT) with the rail and tunnel work packages
  • Lead the coordination of rail and tunnel delivery activities on the project, in consultation with Project Planners. Ensure schedules are integrated
  • Contribute to project scheduling and provide advice and guidance on activities related to interface (handover milestones etc.), integration (testing) and logistics
  •  Manage the project teams requirement for survey jobs through coordination with the Survey Team
  • Plan and manage the trial fabrication and installation of Tunnel Services
  • Liaise with suppliers and wider project team to manage the delivery and storage of materials and equipment over multiple sites.
  • Plan and manage temporary service requirements including handover of such services from Precincts and removal at the end of rail and tunnel activities


To be successful in this key role, you must have:


  • Degree in Engineering, Science, Building Construction or equivalent degree
  • Experience in Project Management or Project Engineering in Engineering Science, Building, Construction, Rail, or equivalent
  • 10 years’ experience within multidisciplinary projects and project teams
  • Contemporary practices in rail industry design and construction methodology
  • Contractual, legal, commercial and legislative compliance
  • Financial control including cost reduction and meeting budgets
  • Analytical, evaluation and decision making skills
  • Quantitative and qualitative safety, environment and quality risk management
