CYP Design & Construction Joint Venture (CYP D&C) has been contracted to design and build the tunnels and stations for the Metro Tunnel Project.



CYP D&C brings together three of Australia's leading construction partners John Holland, Lendlease, and Bouygues Construction.



The Metro Tunnel Project will untangle the City Loop by taking three of Melbourne’s busiest train lines through a new tunnel under the city. It will create a new end-to-end train line from Sunbury to Cranbourne/Pakenham, with twin nine-kilometre tunnels and five new underground stations at Arden (to be renamed North Melbourne), Parkville, Anzac, and two new CBD stations - State Library and Town Hall - which will directly connect to the City Loop.


We are currently seeking an experienced V&V Engineer, familiar with Tunnel and Station construction and associated MEP and Rail systems. Preferably with QA background to relate construction records to VCRM needs and gather requirements based verification and validation evidence in DOORS.


This role is to be performed as part of the Systems Engineering team in effective liaison with Construction and delivery teams including; suppliers and subcontractors who are providers of compliance statements.


This work is to be performed with substantial individual contribution and practical understanding of the Rail domain and its related disciplines involving extensive stakeholder liaison.  Critical to this role is the ability to guide and support the design, delivery and subcontractor teams to produce and deliver requirements based verification and validation evidence and ensure project compliance and conformance to its requirements and their satisfaction progressively in the lifecycle.


Other responsibilities include:


  • Lead the Requirement Management and Verification & Validation activities for the Tunnel and Stations (TAS) Package project throughout the Project Lifecycle, delivering the required outcomes on time, within budget and with high quality of deliverables
  • Overall responsibility for ensuring project’s coverage and compliance to the contract and derived requirements in assigned project areas/ disciplines. 
  • Undertake development and updates of TAS Requirements Management Plan (RMP) and Verification and Validation Management Plan (V&VMP) and associated procedures and participate in their audits, as required from time
  • Ensure that the RM and V&V practices in the project are aligned to RM+V&V framework in DOORS NG defined by RPV for all MTP Packages
  • Lead the definition of V&V approach with the identification of V&V method, acceptance criteria, integration phase and test levels in which the requirements will be closed out.
  • Guide and mentor the design/ delivery/ subcontractor teams on V&V tools, techniques and methodologies and enable them to produce requirements based V&V evidence progressively in the lifecycle
  • Participate in interdisciplinary reviews of design packages, inspection and test plans and related documentation produced by project teams to ensure requirements conformance and compliance in relevant records
  • Support project scope management including contract changes/adjustment events, project interface management, subsystem design engineering, systems integration, systems assurance and configuration management processes through definition and control of TAS requirements baselines at each stage gate
  • Collect V&V evidence from review, analysis, inspection, test and other relevant activities in various teams and establish their traceability to relevant requirements including related standards. Prepare Verification Cross Reference Matrix (VCRM) in DOORS to support Stage Gate Reviews



To be considered for this role, it is essential that you demonstrate the following;


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent qualifications or experience with technical competencies to be an accredited engineer in Australia
  • Experienced in similar role with practical knowledge of requirements management, verification and validation, testing and commissioning of systems and applications in the railway environment including station building services. Experience in other domains with similar disciplines and subsystems will also be considered
  • Sound knowledge of systems engineering and assurance standards and experienced in technical reviews of design, construction, integration, testing and commissioning documentation with respect to relevant requirements and related standards
  • Prior exposure to one or more technical disciplines/ specialisms relevant to TAS Package including the definition of acceptance criteria and requirement satisfaction arguments
  • Self-starter with the initiative and ability to learn and contribute in new areas
  • Good communication and collaboration skills with ability to engage with and influence stakeholders on required technical outcomes within project schedule and budget
  • Certifications or competencies in systems engineering with exposure to Tunnel and Station systems and infrastructure would be well considered
  • Exposure to DOORS NG or other tools used in requirement management, verification and verification systems would be highly regarded
