CYP Design & Construction Joint Venture (CYP D&C) has been contracted to design and build the tunnels and stations for the Metro Tunnel Project. 


CYP D&C brings together three of Australia's leading construction partners John Holland, Lendlease, and Bouygues Construction. 


The Metro Tunnel Project will untangle the City Loop by taking three of Melbourne’s busiest train lines through a new tunnel under the city. It will create a new end-to-end train line from Sunbury to Cranbourne/Pakenham, with twin nine-kilometre tunnels and five new underground stations at Arden (to be renamed North Melbourne), Parkville, Anzac, and two new CBD stations - State Library and Town Hall - which will directly connect to the City Loop. 


We are looking for an experienced Service Manager with a mechanical background to coordinate on-site project delivery functions for the MEP services to achieve time and budget objectives and provide efficient support for construction activities.


Responsibilities of the role include;


  • Manage the successful delivery of MEP packages of works with a focus on the Mechanical and Hydraulic trades.
  • Manage engineering functions from the procurement tender process to Handover through subordinates.
  • Coordinate the activities of an engineering team, programme workloads and provide technical and administrative guidance to the engineering staff.
  • Ensure that project engineering completion is on time and within budget.
  • Draft various Invitation to Tender (ITT) documentation
  • Review of design documents and outcomes to ensure we are meeting Project specific requirements, codes and within  budgets.
  • Input into technical reviews for Electrical and other MEP related packages to ensure they have procured within budget and have delivered in accordance to programme requirements
  • Review documents for coordination of all services with civil, structural, architectural elements and stakeholder elements 
  • Assist with evaluation of tender submissions
  • Develop and submit work packs in conjunction with subcontractors’ scope of works
  • Manage and input for the development of reports for recording and monitoring works progress with subcontractors
  • Assist with evaluation of subcontractor monthly claims, variations and report possible claims upstream
  • Assist with required onsite support of package delivery
  • Auditing of subcontractors as required
  • Communicate with internal disciplines, design team, clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers and planning authorities to ensure satisfactory completion of structures and construction work 
  • Monitor quality and quantities of incoming equipment and material


To be successful in this key role, you must have: 


  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Science, Building Construction or equivalent
  • Minimum 10 years post graduate engineering experience with 4+ years site based
  • Experience on  > $50 M Projects
  • Commercial building experience
  • Project Engineer and operational experience
  • Advanced commercial acumen including cost reduction and meeting budgets
  • Delivery of major projects and teams to program and budget specifications
  • Understanding of the Quality Management Plan. Safety Management Plan, Environmental Management Plan and Projects Design Management Plan
  • Mechanical Trade delivery and Experience
  • Quantitative and qualitative safety, environment and quality risk management
  • Excellent client relationship and stakeholder management
  • People and performance management including the performance of subcontractors
  • Effective time management skills
  • A Diploma of Project Management in Engineering Science, Building, Construction or equivalent, or Master’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent is desirable
