CYP Design & Construction Joint Venture (CYP D&C) has been contracted to design and build the tunnels and stations for the Metro Tunnel Project.

 

CYP D&C brings together three of Australia's leading construction partners John Holland, Lendlease, and Bouygues Construction.

 

The Metro Tunnel Project will untangle the City Loop by taking three of Melbourne’s busiest train lines through a new tunnel under the city. It will create a new end-to-end train line from Sunbury to Cranbourne/Pakenham, with twin nine-kilometre tunnels and five new underground stations at Arden (to be renamed North Melbourne), Parkville, Anzac, and two new CBD stations - State Library and Town Hall - which will directly connect to the City Loop.

 

We are recruiting for a System Safety Assurance Engineer to be part of the team primarily responsible for the System Safety Assurance implementation of the project


Responsibilities of the role include:

 

  • Provide systems safety assurance services to the project in accordance with processes and procedures as in the System Safety Management Plan across all project phases, including:
  • Perform system safety assurance (SSA) process activities for the design and delivery of the Project, including facilitation of hazard workshops, risk assessment, assurance review of technical submission from designers and contractors, etc.;
  • Perform system safety analysis using SSA tools and technics (e.g. HAZOP, FTA, QRA, SIL analysis, FMECA, etc.) and develop inputs to support SSA demonstration;
  • Develop and maintain assurance deliverables e.g.  assurance review records, Project Hazard Log, System Safety Assurance Case Report, etc. in time and in line with project quality requirements.
  • Provide SA guidance and support, to other part of the Project Team e.g. designers/contractors, by illustration on the use of SA tools and techniques
  • Proactively collaborate with other disciplines of the project team e.g. designers and other disciplines of the System Assurance/System Engineering team to develop derived requirement, and their subsequent upload to DOORSNG for on-going management;
  • Support the assessment of engineering modification request including their risk assessment to facilitate Engineering Change Board review process;
  • Conduct peer review of SSA submissions developed by external systems assurance consultants, and (where appropriate) customize and integrate their inputs to CYP project deliverables.
  • Proactively support RSNL accredited entities processes, including residual risk transfer and acceptance.

Verification and Validation Management

  • Management of safety requirements including development of requirements and V&V during design and implementation phases;
  • Proactively liaise and interface with external stakeholders of the project, e.g. contractors, suppliers, O&M etc. for the collection of safety V&V evidence.

Operational Readiness Management

  • Contribute to System Safety  and Assurance Case development.

 

To be successful in this key role, you must have:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, Science, Building Construction or equivalent
  • Minimum 5-10 years’ engineering experience.
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary projects and project teams
  • Understanding of contemporary practices in design, construction and testing and commissioning methodology
  • Awareness of contractual, legal, commercial, industrial relations and legislative compliance management
  • Awareness in financial management including cost reduction and meeting budgets
  • Quantitative and qualitative safety, environment, and quality risk management
  • Experience working in risk, safety and rail systems assurance,
