About the Project

Gold Coast Light Rail has transformed public transport on the Gold Coast, helping create an integrated network that connects more people to more places in one of Australia's most dynamic and fastest growing cities.


John Holland is GoldlinQ's nominated design and construction contractor for GCLR3, to extend the existing light rail network by 6.7kms from Broadbeach to Burleigh Heads, including eight new light rail stations, two new light rail-bus connections, and intersection upgrades along the alignment.


Jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments, and the City of Gold Coast, this city-shaping project will link communities to business centres, shopping, dining, education and medical facilities and cater to the Gold Coast's expected population growth in the coming decades.

About the Role

We are currently looking for an experienced Systems Engineer to join our Rail Engineering division based at our Gold Coast Light Rail project, based in the Gold Coast, QLD. Reporting to the Systems Engineering Manager, you’ll be responsible for performing Verification and Validation management activities through each project phase, ensuring every requirement is addressed progressively through design and implementation with suitable evidence.

This is a long-term opportunity to join our Rail Engineering team at John Holland where you’ll initially support our GCLR3 project.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Support the development and update of Systems Engineering plans
  • Perform requirements management activities, including requirements analysis, definition, capture and management
  • Support the develop and maintain System Breakdown Structures, systems architecture for rail infrastructure and Rail systems
  • Perform systems interface management activities, including interface analysis, developing interface matrix, maintaining interface registers and preparing interface documents
  • Support Safety Assurance activities, including hazard analysis, risk assessments and safety case development
  • Support configuration management activities, including configuration identification, Configuration Control and status accounting
  • Perform Verification and Validation management activities through each project phase, ensuring every requirement is addressed progressively through design and implementation with suitable evidence
  • Effectively and proactively build strong working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders

To be successful in this role:

  • Bachelor degree in an Engineering / Systems discipline
  • 5 years post graduate experience within a technically complex or high risk industry
  • Applications of systems engineering and standards
  • Experience using DOORS NG to manage requirements
  • Experience of managing intra and extra organisational interfaces
  • Management of systems based risk, including interface and integration risk
  • Strong communication skills to effectively support Construction teams on the project.
