The Opportunity:
With a strong pipeline of work currently under construction including the Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 3 and Beerburrum to Nambour Rail Upgrade (B2N) projects and a healthy number of prospects coming up in SE Queensland in 2025, John Holland are currently looking for a People Director to join our growing business.
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide strategic HR input into the project, ensuring HR best practice, conditions and deliverables are implemented ultimately impacting project delivery
- Build and lead a team of dedicated project-based People resources across HR operations, industrial relations, social procurement, workforce development and training.
- Provide strategic People leadership as part of the project leadership team
- Development and implementation of project specific HR strategies, policies and procedures
- Support and deliver the Projects IR strategy
- Support project delivery staff with IR/ER training, education and knowledge sharing
- Share IR/ER lessons learnt with project delivery staff to be proactive in risk assessment
- Coach and guide managers through all people related matters balancing best for project outcomes and employee experience
- Develop innovative initiatives and influence project stakeholders to increase local, Indigenous, female and new entrant participation on the project.
- Lead all project People activities including employee relations, recruitment and onboarding, performance and development, remuneration reviews, training, and project lifecycle initiatives.

Position Requirements:
- Extensive experience providing strategic HR leadership and senior level experience across relevant HR disciplines, including experience in large complex organisations and projects (experience working on major projects construction projects will be highly regarded).
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Business Administration, Business Management, Human Resources, Law or Employee Relations
- Expert knowledge of human resources, employee relations and employment law in Australia.
- Outstanding stakeholder engagement, influencing and negotiation skills
- Proven ability to work cross functionally, building strong business partnerships
- Strategic ability to problem solve, think laterally, formulate plans, coach and provide advice to senior management
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to create effective teams with a strong focus on delivering outcomes
- Strong business acumen and communication skills
- Someone who engenders trust, highly influential and confidential
