About Inland Rail
Inland Rail is transforming how goods are moved around Australia, connecting Melbourne and Brisbane via regional Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. This 1,700km fast freight backbone will complete our national freight network – better connecting producers to markets and creating new opportunities for regional businesses, industries and communities.
The Illabo to Stockinbingal project is about 39km of new rail corridor located within the local government areas of Junee and Cootamundra-Gundagai. This new section of rail corridor will provide a direct route from east of Illabo, tracking north to Stockinbingal and connecting into the existing Forbes rail line.
What is needed?
We are currently looking for an experienced Senior Project Accountant to work on our newly awarded Illabo to Stockinbingal project (I2S). This role would be predominantly based in Sydney, but some site visits would be required.
Key responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain commercial and contract systems including Project Costs Reporting (PCR), Commercial Pack database.
- Ensure cost forecasting for allocated cost codes are accurately maintained and keep project management teams abreast of any cost issues immediately upon identification.
- Assist with forecasting and cost management.
- Prepare balance sheet statements and/ or consolidate other accounting statements and reports as required.
- Analyse financial reports and information to ensure compliance to internal policies and statutory requirements, make recommendations for effective financial management of revenue and expenditure to reduce costs and meet budgets.
- Review and verify the accuracy of accounting entries in recorded systems.
- Build strong internal and external stakeholder management through positive, proactive and professional communication to keep key people informed.
- Prepare variance analysis on financial information and maintain records of operating performance for comparison with estimated budgets.
- Ensure compliance in contractual, commercial and financial management including meeting budgets and identifying cost saving measures
- Prepare and manage month end financials ie. preparation of accruals etc.
- Cashflow analysis and bank account reconciliation.
- Ensure Project Commercial and wider team are providing accurate and timely information as required.
- Prepare/ co-ordinate collation of documents as required for financial audits.
- Ensure all activities comply with legal, professional and ethical standards.
- Perform all duties in accordance with John Holland policies, processes, reporting, systems and procedures.
- Work collaboratively with all support functions and subject matter experts within the project, ensuring that consultation and notification occurs when matters arise which relate to these functions at all times

- CA qualified or CPA qualified
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Commerce, Accounting, Business or other associated disciplines
- 5+ years accounting experience within a construction project or corporate environment
- Experience in Financial Accountant / Management Accountant roles
- Demonstrated experience in financial and management accounting
- Strong understanding of Controls
- Understanding of tax legislation and financial/accounting systems
- Excellent PC skills - Intermediate Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Computer proficiency in relevant software
- Demonstrated knowledge of risk management and compliance reporting and procedures
- Strong stakeholder management skills
- Exceptional analytical and numerical skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent project management skills
