We are currently looking for a Technical Specialist (Hydrology & Drainage) to join our TEK (Technology, Engineering and Knowledge) division.  This position can be based out of our Melbourne, Sydney, or Brisbane office.

Working within our Hydrology & Drainage Engineering team, you will provide specialist surface water advice (hydrology, hydraulics, and drainage) and technical expertise across a range of complex projects in different industry sectors (transport, buildings, water infrastructure). 

This role will play an integral part in a team of highly skilled specialists and ensure client supplied and consultant designs and models are interrogated appropriately to both understand inherent risk and mitigate unforeseen cost impacts.

About the Role:

  • Develop hydrological and hydraulic models for construction sites to assess flood impacts.
  • Interrogate complex client supplied or consultant supplied flood models and drainage models to review compliance with industry standards
  • Review flood mitigation and drainage activities on bids and projects in delivery in consultation with managers and professionals
  • Scope up design works for external Design Partners with the ability to manage, schedule, and budget on behalf of the construction team or pre-contracts team
  • Fulfil the role of Designer, Checker, or Verifier in the development of temporary works drainage designs, temporary works flood mitigation strategies and construction phase Flood Emergency Management Plans (FEMP)
  • Present analyses, assessment results and design outcomes to Key Stakeholders on behalf of the construction team or pre-contracts team
  • Foster the interaction between precontracts, design teams and construction teams to maximise innovation and project success
  • Instil commercial and contractual awareness in dealing with clients and external design partners
  • Provide advice and cost-effective technical solutions which meet John Holland safety and risk requirements 
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of design compliance and reporting procedures in the communication of requirements
  • Perform all duties in accordance with John Holland policies and systems

About You:

This position will require you to hold a degree qualification in Civil or Environmental Engineering and be a Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartership with Engineer’s Australia.

You will have extensive experience in an engineering role, specialising in Hydrology and Drainage and be exceptionally proficient in a range of relevant computer software packages including: TUFLOW, HEC-RAS, 12D, RORB, XP-RAFTS, GIS, CAD, DRAINS, CIVIL3D, HY8, and WBNM.

The ability to nurture and build client relationships and utilise your excellent stakeholder management skills is essential.
