An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Junior Engineer to join our Welshpool-based team.  This is an entry level position where very little previous knowledge of rolling-stock is expected.  As a Junior Engineer you will provide engineering and technical support within the WA Rail Plant Services team, contributing to short term planning and reporting in respect to safety and technical requirements, governance and risks impacting the performance of various rolling stock within different rail systems.

Responsibilities of the role include;

  • Assist with Rail Plant Services Business activities to gain experience in Plant Equipment/Rolling Stock Maintenance Management & internal/external client-based Engineering & Maintenance activities.
  • Assist maintenance workshop with technical support
  • Assess compliance of rolling stock with technical specifications, applicable legislation, approvals and relevant standards and JHG risk management process
  • Conduct and administer overall job planning and programming
  • Conduct & Maintain the records of assessment activities
  • Develop specifications and undertake minor design; monitor and recommend changes to design details to increase productivity and/or safety        
  • Exercise professional judgement in developing & resolving engineering issues
  • Maintain rolling-stock register controls for the Unit
  • Implement and communicate risk controls and actions involved in the safety assurance of rolling-stock.
  • Prepare performance reports around compliance and defects and/or non-conformance
  • Undertake quantitative and qualitative safety, risk assessment

To be successful in this key role, you must have;

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Certificate in Engineering or Science in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics or equivalent
  • Relevant work experience demonstrating capacity to effectively contribute to team objectives within a corporate framework.
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills
  • Skill in use of document and record management, progress and performance reporting compliance and procedures
