Job Description

We are currently looking to engage a Principal Heavy Lift Engineer, to join our Technology, Engineering and Knowledge (TEK) team focussed on our activities encompassing heavy transportation, cranage/lifting and materials handling.  This role can be based in either our Brisbane, Melbourne or Pyrmont (Sydney) office.
Key responsibilities of the role include:

Development of lift and constructability methodologies in both pre-contract and delivery phase, supporting tenders and projects with assistance and advice involving temporary works, equipment selection of cranes and specialised lift I shift equipment including lift and transport engineering/ design, lift plan development and vetting, heavy lift training and construction methodology refinement
Ongoing development and continuous improvement of crane competency lift planning and lifting procedures for use on John Holland and JV projects including provision of advice on relevant requirements againstlegislation/regulations, Codes of Practice, across Australian and international standards relevant to lifting, transport and rigging.
Oversight and implementation of related activities as per John Holland and project specific requirements, policy and procedure; coordinating on-site ‘lift and shift’ engineering activities to safely achieve schedule and financial objectives and ensuring all lift and logistics related issues are integrated and considered during design and construction phase activities.
Provide technical input and detailed understanding of plant and equipment capability, availability and compatibility against project plans and requirements to ensure construction targets achieved, recommending modifications where required.
Actively engage with tender and project personnel to manage and control risk and ensure compliance, assisting with the development of associated JH staff by training and upskilling
Assist in negotiating appropriate contract terms and conditions with customers, subcontractors and suppliers in liaison with project management and TEK management.
There will be a requirement to travel as part of the role to service tenders / projects, which may extend to international travel as well as domestic.
To be successful in this role, the following skills are required;

Minimum 10 years + civil/building infrastructure (or SMP) experience in Cranage/Heavy Lift field developing/planning, coordinating and managing operations with $500m+ project exposure.
Absolute appreciation of the importance of safe working and management of risk
Ability to engage and assimilate with a team of well-established professionals in both tender and delivery stage and create positive relationships internally and externally.
Capable of agile working across multiple multi-disciplinary teams.
An affinity for continuous improvement and innovation, applying learnings to ‘real world’ tender and project delivery environments.
Good communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to visualise and demonstrate to the team with software the methods and solutions, to further explain the work being developed.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Civil/Structural Engineering ideally with Cert IV TAE and relevant industry qualifications/licenses.
Highly desirable to have self-perform project experience and professional engineering accreditation.
