About the Project - Kidston
John Holland in partnership with McConnell Dowell (Joint Venture) are delivering the Kidston Pumped Storage Hydro Project in Far North Queensland.
This is an innovative project that involves the world-first conversion of a disused gold mine into a pumped storage hydroelectric power generation facility in far-north Queensland (270km NW of Townsville).
The project will see the conversion of two existing mine pits into reservoirs, involving the construction of significant underground infrastructure including a large powerhouse cavern and waterway shafts and tunnels to allow the transfer of water between upper and lower reservoirs to generate power during peak periods and return water back to the upper reservoir during off peak periods.
About the Role
Working on a 14/7 FIFO roster – The main aim for a Senior Quality Inspector is to support the implementation and monitoring of the quality objectives, requirements, risks and other issues that may adversely impact the surety of successful project delivery.
Responsibilities include:
• Conduct inspection, testing and reporting activities to ensure the project quality requirements are delivered in accordance with specifications for civil works such as earth works, roads FRP and tunnelling works i.e. rock anchoring, shotcrete installation, rock blasting. Conduct inspection and testing in relation to the concrete mix design and associated test.
• Ensure the projects inspection and test plans are followed and all sign offs are completed accurately in a timely manner.
• Apply a clear understanding of the project’s contractual obligations, standards, procedures, specifications and tolerances for all work that was being undertaken.
• Build effective relationships with clients, subcontracts, engineers and construction personnel.
• Participate in the investigation of non-conformances and take corrective action resolution and inspect and verify the completion of punch / defect list items.
• Under direction recommend inspection sampling techniques, quality control plans, process control procedures to ensure that products meet specifications and standards.
• Prepare audit reports summarising production and quality issues together and recommend corrective actions.
About the Person
• Advanced Diploma of Degree or Lead Auditor Qualification in Engineering, Science, Building, Construction, Quality Management or Project Management
• Experience in civil engineering and quality management system, planning techniques and tools.
• Project management, contracts administration and quality representation experience on large scale projects is well regarded.
• Must have civil and tunnelling quality inspection experience.
