About the Project

John Holland in partnership with McConnell Dowell (Joint Venture) are delivering the Kidston Pumped Storage Hydro Project in Far North Queensland. This is an innovative project that involves the world-first conversion of a disused gold mine into a pumped storage hydroelectric power generation facility in far-north Queensland (270km NW of Townsville). 

The project will see the conversion of two existing mine pits into reservoirs, involving the construction of significant underground infrastructure including a large powerhouse cavern and waterway shafts and tunnels to allow the transfer of water between upper and lower reservoirs to generate power during peak periods and return water back to the upper reservoir during off peak periods. 

Responsibilities of the role include:

The Senior Completions Engineer will ensure that commissioning of the Kidston Pumped storage hydro plant is completed to the requirements of the project brief including quality, performance, availability and durability, in a timely and cost-effective manner.  

The Senior Completions Engineer will:

•    Report directly to the Contractor Integration Manager
•    Ensure that the Performance Testing and Commissioning Plan Method Statements, ITPs and ITCs are established and maintained, including maintaining traceability of all checks undertaken.
•    In co-ordination with the Commissioning Manager, liaise with the Construction Managers to ensure a seamless transition from Construction to Commissioning 
•    Prepare the Commissioning Reports
•    Ensure that pre-commissioning checks have been adequately completed before System Commissioning using the CCMS system.
•    Manage the Completions and Commissioning management software (Assethive), refer section 3.1.1 with respect to the details of the CCMS.
•    Liaise with the CCMS vendor to ensure seamless operation of the CCMS.
•    Assist the commissioning engineers processing all commissioning test records going out and coming in – Coordination of commissioning activities.
•    Assist the project planners with Project controls, S-Curves and other progress tools.

To be successful in this key role, you must have:

• Must have an engineering degree or relevant quals 
• At least 10 years of commissioning experience. 
• Extensive expertise in the detailed "Planning" of commissioning, proving, and demonstrating wastewater/water treatment facilities, pump stations, and pipelines. 
• Documented success in the commissioning, demonstration, operator training, and timely handover of projects
• Demonstrated ability to prepare and secure acceptance for comprehensive commissioning reports and supporting documents (e.g., ITPs). 
• Experience in managing or executing the preparation of operating procedures, maintenance schedules/programs, as well as operation and maintenance manuals.
