About the Project - Kidston Pumped Storage Hydro

John Holland in partnership with McConnell Dowell (Joint Venture) are delivering the Kidston Pumped Storage Hydro Project in Far North Queensland. This is an innovative project that involves the world-first conversion of a disused gold mine into a pumped storage hydroelectric power generation facility in far-north Queensland (270km NW of Townsville).

 

The project will see the conversion of two existing mine pits into reservoirs, involving the construction of significant underground infrastructure including a large powerhouse cavern and waterway shafts and tunnels to allow the transfer of water between upper and lower reservoirs to generate power during peak periods and return water back to the upper reservoir during off peak periods.

 

This project received funding from ARENA as part of ARENA's Advancing Renewables Program and is a gamechanger for the clean energy industry worldwide as it is an entirely new approach to large-scale energy storage.

This position is a 2/1 roster arrangement. We are looking for an experienced Senior Quality Manager to join our Kidston Pumped Storage Hydro project. Reporting to the Project Director, you'll be responsible for developing, recommending, and implementing a completions and quality assurance programme to ensure statutory and contractual compliance with quality requirements on the project. 

Sustain high standards of quality compliance by enforcing quality policies and procedures, and product requirements and specifications.

Responsibilities of the role:

  • Lead and effectively participate in the development and deployment of the Kidston Project Management System ensuring compliance with John Holland certification and accreditation to
    • ISO 9001 – Quality management System
    • AS/NZS 4801 – Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems
    • ISO 14001– Environmental Management Systems.
  • Coordinate the development, review, and change management of the Project Plans as required under the contract.
  • Maintain knowledge of quality and completion processes, standards, and specifications; evaluate management system procedures to ensure adherence and provide regular updates to quality personnel and senior management.
  • Establish clear quality and completion strategic actions for the Project in line with the organisation’s direction, values and expectations balanced with the needs of clients.  
  • Establish quality and completion key performance indicators for the Project to drive business excellence outcomes.
  • Monitor quality and completion performance indicators and client performance results; identifying trends and implementing quality improvement actions.
  • Build and maintain good working relationships with clients, key stakeholders and staff members; establish lines of communication for feedback.
  • Provide projects with the required completions and quality resources, training, project start-up and ongoing support to deliver consistent quality of product.
  • Train and mentor project personnel on quality system and completions requirements, ensure administrative processes for quality conformance/compliance indicators are established and monitored.
  • Empower quality personnel to act with responsibility and accountability by reinforcing values and expectations.
  • Investigate significant and repeat nonconformances; resolve process failures with effective corrective actions; share lessons learnt across the business.
  • Lead and effectively participate in surveys to investigate and gather information that will address inadequacies concerning Project Management System.
  • Establish clear communication, solid lines of control and delegation to sub-ordinates and actively create and maintain a culture of openness, responsiveness, honest, ethics and responsibility across the team.

What we're looking for:

  • Diploma or Lead Auditor Qualification in Engineering, Science, Building, Construction, Quality Management or Project Management
  • 10+ years relevant experience in quality systems management in the construction sector with substantial on-site exposure
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a completions & quality management role
  • Experience in developing and managing project quality management systems
  • Certified/Industry recognized HSEQ Auditor
  • Thorough knowledge of AS4801, ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO31000
  • Incident Investigation trained to a senior level or equivalent
