The Project

The consortium of John Holland, Bouygues Construction, Arcadis Australia, Jacobs and Ventia has been selected to build South Australia's biggest-ever road infrastructure project. In partnership with the South Australian Government, this consortium forms the Torrens to Darlington (T2D) Alliance.

 

The Torrens to Darlington (T2D) Alliance, will deliver the final 10.5km section of the North-South Corridor, forming a continuous 78 km, non-stop, traffic light-free motorway, and contributing to a long-lasting legacy for the community and people of Adelaide.

 

The T2D Project involves constructing two separate tunnels – the Southern Tunnels and the Northern Tunnels connected by an open motorway, with a combined total distance of 10.5km, open to traffic in 2031.  The T2D project comprises the tunnels, surface works including road and bridge construction in addition to services buildings and complex mechanical and electrical infrastructure. The T2D Alliance is committed to providing opportunities for local people, Aboriginal workers, apprentices, trainees and job seekers who are long-term unemployed and offers people an incredible opportunity to be a part of an iconic project.

The Role:

The Site Engineer - Tunnel role will provide direct support to the civil construction activities within the Tunnel by coordinating on-site engineering tasks. The role will ensure works are carried out safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project plans, specifications, and quality standards. Working closely with supervisors, subcontractors, and project engineers, the Site Engineer will develop practical experience in tunnelling delivery while contributing to time, cost, and quality objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Support day-to-day tunnelling site engineering activities and assist with implementing project safety, quality, and environmental requirements
  • Assist in the design, review, and implementation of temporary works, liaising with designers and subcontractors to ensure safe execution
  • Support procurement processes, manage material requisitions, and oversee delivery schedules, equipment allocation and workforce scheduling to optimise productivity
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, including daily site records and compliance reporting
  • Participate and contribute in toolbox talks, safety inductions, and safety/environmental initiatives
  • Work closely with senior project engineers, subcontractors, and stakeholders, maintaining clear communication channels and fostering teamwork

 

About You :

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Civil, Mining, Geotechnical, or equivalent)
  • Preferably 2 years of experience in a site-based engineering role
  • Strong knowledge of construction safety, quality, and environmental requirements
  • Experience in concrete works, pre-cast, drainage, services and/or complex construction preferable
  • Proficient in relevant software packages, including Microsoft Office Suite and document management tools
  • Demonstrated ambition and a willingness to learn, with an ability to apply new skills, academic and practical knowledge in a dynamic construction environment
