Spanning more than 1,700km, the Australian Government is delivering Inland Rail through the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC), in partnership with the private sector.

The Narrabri to North Star (N2NS) section is one of 13 projects that complete Inland Rail and is an upgrade of approximately 188 km of track within the existing rail corridor and construction of approximately 1.6 km of new rail track. The works are required to accommodate the operation of future planned 1,800 m double-stacked freight trains.

The contract for the delivery of Narrabri to North Star (N2NS) was awarded to Trans4m Rail in November 2020.  Trans4m Rail combines the experience of John Holland and SEE Civil Pty Ltd.

Trans4M Rail has commenced mobilisation and currently has an opportunity for an experienced Contracts Administrator. Based on site, this is a key role within the Commercial team supporting the delivery of this iconic Inland Rail Project.


Key Responsibilities of the role include:


  • Take off quantities off design documentation.
  • Undertaking reviews of design documentation and providing take off for quantities and cost for financial reporting purposes
  • Vetting analysis and recommendation of preferred sub-contractors
  • Estimate quantity and costs of materials
  • Prepare contracts and documents
  • Project Control, Control Pro Management, Head Contract Variations
  • Undertaking cost planning, cost analysis, site measurements for sub-contractor progress payments and variations
  • Analyse costs for maintenance and additional building needs
  • Track changes in plans or constructions; update budgets
  • Negotiate with contractors and subcontractors
  • Hire and document contractors and subcontractors
  • Keep track of construction materials and inventory
  • Document progress, materials, and reports on project


To be successful in this key role, you must have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Quantity Surveying or other relevant discipline
  • Min 3 years post graduate experience as a Quantity Surveyor on commercial construction projects with a mid-tier or top tier contractor
  • Advanced skills in the use of estimating software
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively to drive positive outcomes with key stakeholders
  • Strong relationship building, influencing and negotiation skills
