About the Belmont Desal project:

A 30 ML/d seawater desalination plant will be delivered at Belmont South NSW, to provide weather independent supply to the community in the lower Hunter region.

 

Seen as one of the largest capital projects in the water sector in Hunter region, the community is expecting a sustainable outcome for the nature of a seawater desalination plant. It is also the first project in Hunter Water pursuing an IS Rating, as part of its Carbon Neutral Strategy by 2035.

About the role:

We are seeking an experienced Safety Coordinator to join the Belmont Desal team. This position will monitor and support the safety function under general supervision and to provide support and coordination of safety practices, systems and procedures.

 

The position will report to the Safety Manager and be based in the Belmont Desal site office in Newcastle, NSW.

Responsibilities of the role include:

  • Monitor compliance with the safety systems and procedures within the workplace and provide operational support to the project management team.
  • Research and assist with the development of safety policies specific to the project.
  • Administer safety programs for project employees.
  • Assist with workers compensation claims and rehabilitation processes.
  • Assist with conducting incident and accident investigations that may require litigation.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections and monitoring work areas.
  • Establish positive working relationships with project personnel and raise awareness of safety risks.
  • Assist in the development of communications tools and records for all project safety meetings.
  • Prepare and maintain reports and documentation concerning the aspects of project safety programs.
  • Monitor and evaluate the project safety programs for value and effectiveness. ­
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable legislative requirements including government regulations, standards and policies. ­
  • Maintain professional relationships with regulatory bodies and clients to foster the professional image of John Holland ­
  • Evaluate, investigate and gather information that will address inadequacies concerning safety matters

To be successful in this key role, you must have:

  • Diploma of Work Health and Safety or equivalent
  • ­Experience in conducting and interpreting audit reviews ­
  • Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative risk assessment and monitoring of risk controls
  • Experience monitoring, reviewing and reporting on performance, compliance and defects ­ Skills in safety management techniques and tools
