Cross Yarra Partnership (CYP) has been contracted by Rail Project Victoria (RPV), on behalf of the Victorian Government, to design, build and maintain the stations and tunnels for the Metro Tunnel Project. CYP brings together three of Australia's leading construction partners, Lendlease, John Holland, and Bouygues Construction, that possess the world's best experience in tunnelling, engineering and construction.


The Metro Tunnel Project will untangle the City Loop by taking three of Melbourne’s busiest train lines through a new tunnel under the city. It will create a new end-to-end train line from Sunbury to Cranbourne/Pakenham, with twin nine-kilometre tunnels and five new underground stations at Arden (to be renamed North Melbourne), Parkville, Anzac, and two new CBD stations - State Library and Town Hall - which will directly connect to the City Loop.


As the project gets underway we have opportunities looking for experienced ‘high performing’ Tunnelling Engineers to join us in delivering this iconic project and leave an amazing legacy for the people of Melbourne

Responsibilities of the role include:

  • Coordinating on-site construction engineering activities to ensure project are implemented in accordance with plans, designs and specifications
  • Monitoring construction progress for adherence to programme
  • Managing site engineers in terms of claims, variations in time and further contractual obligations
  • Assisting with the creation and adherence to project targets and objectives
  • Overseeing and reviewing relevant documentation administered to the project management team
  • Assisting with the preparation of site construction budgets and reports
  • Developing plans with supervisory staff and your interface team
  • Ensuring safety, environmental & quality management outcomes are in line with regional & corporate objectives and industry best practice
  • Delivery of a finished project that complies with the prescribed specifications & standards to deliver satisfaction to the client and other project stakeholders

To be considered for this role, it is essential that you demonstrate the following;

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, Science, Building Construction or equivalent
  • Specialist tunnelling experience
  • 5+ years tunnel engineering experience
  • Tunnel temporary and permanent works design exposure
  • Tunnel construction for TBM and shotcrete lining works
  • Geotechnical and underground experience
  • Planning and implementing site mobilisation works for tunnel sites
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively to drive positive outcomes with key stakeholders
  • Strong relationship building, influencing and negotiation skills.
