About John Holland

At John Holland, our purpose is simple – we transform lives with everything we do.

We’ve always known that infrastructure is about people — our customers, our employees, and the communities in which we work every day.

That’s our difference. Deep experience and capability with a genuine care about creating better lives for people along the way.

Be part of the team that’s up for the challenge of transforming lives for good.

Are you up for the challenge?

We are currently looking for a Senior Civil Engineer to join our TEK (Technology, Engineering and Knowledge) division.

Working within our TEK Construction and Assurance (C&A) Civil Engineering team, you will provide support to the Principal Civil Engineer and contribute to the successful outcome of John Holland Group tenders / projects.

About our TEK Technical Design team

The C&A stream of TEK comprises Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in the disciplines of civil engineering, structural engineering, electrical engineering, hydrology, and geotechnical engineering.  We work closely with the various business units providing technical support and solutions to win and deliver, safe and commercially successful projects by mitigating risk and developing innovative solutions.

About the Role

  • Collaborate and support the Principal Civil Engineer across multiple tasks in identifying key risks and opportunities, risk mitigation strategies, and realisation of opportunities. This may involve both on-site and /or office-based works across multiple industry sectors. The site work could require visits to both urban or rural Australian settings.
  • Part of the support may be to lead a small task team as guided by the Principal Civil Engineer to deliver a specific outcome for our tenders or projects. This will involve organisation, communication and review of work associated with various tasks, delivered on time and to a high standard.
  • Mentor, teach and share high quality information among TEK team members or the broader JH team regarding civil engineering and related subjects.
  • Contribute to innovation and continuous improvement of work and processes in the TEK team, working towards the next advancement.

About You

This role will see you holding a degree in Civil Engineering from an institute recognised by Engineers Australia.  You will have Engineers Australia membership and Engineers Australia Chartered Status (or be working towards).

Other requirements:

  • Significant relevant experience in producing high quality technical outputs related to Civil Engineering design and construction
  • Substantial experience with on-site civil works in design and construction delivery (e.g. Construction Phase Service, site engineering role etc.)
  • Understanding and application of varied civil design and construction methodologies/techniques including pavements, earthworks, and stormwater drainage.
  • Competency with the use and application of various relevant Australian Standards and industry guidelines/specification requirements
  • Proficiency with basic suites of design software, such as CIRCLY and 12D.  Strong technical basis to analytical solutions is expected to form the basis of this proficiency
  • Leadership experience in mentoring less experienced Engineers

You will enjoy working collaboratively and be able to foster effective strategic relationships with people at all levels both internally and externally.

Your flexible and team-centric attitude, along with your high motivation to learn and adapt to a variety of challenges that extend beyond the technical, will see you succeed in the role.

As part of the team, you can help us transform lives.

Your success is reflected in ours, so we’re committed to being an employer of choice. We pride ourselves on having a diverse and inclusive workplace, as we understand that different perspectives and ideas are critical to our long-term success.

We want you to be with us for the long term, so providing you with rich career experiences and ongoing development is our priority.

Learning and development opportunities where you’ll have access to emerging talent programs, building your career through clear career pathways, plus technical and leadership training and development opportunities.
