About the role:

Are you ready to shape Australia’s infrastructure future? Join our dynamic Infrastructure and Major Projects team as a Senior Estimator in either Sydney or Brisbane. As a key member of our pre-contracts Estimating team, you’ll work at the forefront of transformative projects, reporting directly to our National Chief Estimating Manager. In this pivotal role, you’ll take ownership of delivering precise, high-quality project estimates that meet technical standards and deadlines, driving success for John Holland’s iconic ventures.

What you will do:

  • Estimate project quantities and costs in preparation of major tenders on a timely and cost effective basis
  • Monitor current competitive prices, new techniques and cost trends
  • Establish cost code / work breakdown structure and competent contractual commercial and legislative compliance skills
  • Assist in allocating the Bill of Quantities for costing purposes
  • Undertake productivity and benchmarking analysis 
  • Develop accurate estimates through first principles pricing of direct and indirect job costs
  • Review Client’s designs for opportunities and omissions
  • Assist site managers in the development of variation / EOT claims
  • Interpret specifications and standards and assess their impact on project costs
  • Understand legislation that could have an impact on project costs
  • Liaise with subcontractors/suppliers to ensure accurate pricing to make assessment of supplier and subcontractor quotes
  • Undertake a tender risk assessment and produces Risks and Opportunities schedule
  • Manage and present tender including multi -discipline/JVs to business leaders for approval
  • Lead tender line by line reviews
  • Prepare presentation materials for final tender reviews
  • Provide feedback and collate tender deviations / exceptions
  • Manage stakeholders groups across the business and in external support areas
  • Provide technical inputs as a team leader to ensure the timely completion of estimates

To be successful in this key role, you must have:

  • Tertiary or Trade Qualifications in Construction, Engineering, Science, Quantity Surveying and/or Project/Construction Management. 
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in construction cost planning, tendering or project delivery working on a diverse range of tenders/projects across Infrastructure. 
  • Multi-disciplinary estimating experience 
  • Experience in Construct Only, Design & Construct, Managing Contract, Alliance, Joint Ventures & PPP Contracts types
