About the Role / Are you up for the challenge?
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Health, Safety & Rail Safety Manager to lead and manage all aspects of health, safety, and rail safety compliance across the Beveridge to Albury Tranche 2 project. This is a pivotal role that ensures the safety and wellbeing of our workforce, stakeholders, and the public, while driving a strong culture of safety excellence throughout the project.
In this role, you will oversee and support safety teams across eight different sites, spanning from Wandong to Benalla. While the position is primarily based out of our main office in Docklands, it will require regular travel to various construction sites to provide hands-on leadership, guidance, and oversight. Your responsibilities will include ensuring that all project deliverables are achieved in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner, while maintaining compliance with health, safety, and rail safety standards.

Project Description
Inland Rail is transforming how goods are moved around Australia, connecting Melbourne and Brisbane via regional Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. This 1,700km fast freight backbone will complete our national freight network – better connecting producers to markets and creating new opportunities for regional businesses, industries and communities.
The Beveridge to Albury (B2A) project is the Victorian portion of the program undertaken along approximately 305 kms of existing northest rail corridor between Beveridge and Albury. B2A is staged in two tranches. Tranche 1 includes enhancement works across four sites and corridor wide works.
Tranche 2 works will be delivered by John Holland and includes adjustment of track alignments, the provision of new road overbridges and station modifications to enable the safe operation of double-stack freight trains across eight B2A project sites between Wandong and Benalla.
Responsibilities of the role include / What you will do;
Overall responsibility for the Health and Safety and Rail safety function on this high-profile major project includes:
- Develop, implement, and maintain health, safety, and rail safety management systems in line with legislative and project requirements.
- Lead the health and safety and rail safety teams to provide support and expertise to the project delivery team.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to project teams on health, safety, and rail safety matters.
- Lead incident investigations, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective actions are implemented.
- Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to promote a strong safety culture across the project.
- Monitor and report on safety performance, identifying trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Ensure compliance with rail safety regulations and standards, including the Rail Safety National Law (RSNL).
To be successful in this key role, you must have / What we are looking for;
- Proven experience in a health and safety management role, ideally within the rail or construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of health, safety, and rail safety legislation, standards, and best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and influence teams to achieve safety excellence.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
- Relevant qualifications in Work Health and Safety (WHS) and/or Rail Safety.
- Experience in incident investigation and root cause analysis.
- A proactive and solutions-focused mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement.
