About the project

A new $300M+ greenfield Water treatment plant and associated infrastructure which will provide water for Cairns and the surrounding regions. The scope includes the following:

 

•    Draper Road water treatment plant (DRWTP) – capacity of 60 megalitres (ML)/day
•    An 8 ML clear water reservoir (at RL 122 m AHD) delivering treated water into the trunk network and earthworks to accommodate future construction of a 5 ML high-level service reservoir (at RL 116 m AHD)
•    Construction of an all-weather access road from the DRWTP to the reservoir sites. Mulgrave River intake (Stage 1) and raw water main delivering 20 ML/day of raw water to the DRWTP. 
•    Upgrade to the existing Behana Creek intake and pipeline upgrades, augmentations and extensions to the Behana Creek intake treated water supply main to deliver 44ML/day raw water to the new DRWTP.
•    Treated water delivery main works (including relevant valving) delivering water from the proposed DRWTP to Council’s existing trunk water main network located in the Bruce Highway. 
•    Reticulation main works to service communities (Aloomba) and properties located south of the Mulgrave River, within Gordonvale
•    New power, telecommunications, and data services to the DRWTP, the Mulgrave River raw water intake and the Behana Creek raw water intake.
•    Numerous Cane Rail crossings along with HDD and Thrust Bores under roads and water

About the role

As Senior Project Engineer you will coordinate on-site engineering functions to achieve time and budget objectives and provide efficient support for construction activities. Based on site in Gordonvale, Cairns, QLD.

Responsibilities of the role include

•    Manage on-site engineering functions through subordinates, which may include Project Engineers, and/or Cost/Planning Engineers 
•    Obtain relevant design parameter information for incorporation into detailed designs and construction specifications
•    Monitor quality and quantities of incoming equipment and material, check work drawings, construction and specifications against site plans and conditions and arrange corrections or modifications where necessary.
•    Coordinate the activities of an engineering team, programme workloads and provide technical and administrative guidance to the engineering staff to ensure aims and objectives are effectively and economically achieved
•    Ensure that project engineering completion is on time and within budget. Record completed work, costs incurred, materials used and retain progress drawings 
•    Undertake all tasks within the role safely, in accordance with the key elements of the JH Management System governing GMRs, HSES Policies, HSES Management Manuals, SQE Risk Management System and Our HSE Behaviours.
•    Accurate forecasts of costs and revenue and utilise corrective action in line with JH’s authority and reporting frameworks to maximise the profit margin 
•    Assign work and assist with reviews for accuracy and adherence to required standards of supplier, subcontractor quotations/purchase orders as well as subcontractor arrangements
•    Participate in planning future requirements including machine tools, ancillary equipment, major plant and labour. Direct site surveys and preparatory work prior to construction.
•    Liaise with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers and planning authorities to ensure satisfactory completion of structures and construction work
•    Perform all duties in accordance with John Holland policies, processes, systems, reporting and procedures
•    Perform all duties in accordance with Draper WTP Sustainability and wellbeing policies, processes, systems and procedures including our Corporate Sustainability Framework 
•    Follow all WHS Act and Regs including Model Codes of Practice and Australian Standards

To be successful in this key role, you must have

•    7+ years post graduate engineering experience with 4+ years site based 
•    Experience on >$50M Projects
•    Delivered water infrastructure projects including pipeline networks
•    Advanced commercial acumen including cost reduction and meeting budgets
•    Delivery of major projects and teams to program and budget specifications 
•    Understanding of the Quality Management Plan. Safety Management Plan, Environmental Management Plan and Projects Design Management Plan
•    Quantitative and qualitative safety, environment and quality risk management
•    Excellent client relationship and stakeholder management
•    People and performance management including the performance of subcontractors
•    Effective time management skills
