About the role:

John Holland as part of a JV has been awarded a major works contract for the delivery of Light Rail Stage 2A – City to Commonwealth Park in Canberra ACT. The project will see three new stops built at Edinburgh Avenue, City South and Commonwealth Avenue, extending the network by 1.7 kilometres.

 

John Holland is currently seeking a Senior Project Engineer-Signalling to join the team.

 

Whilst you will be initially based on the Canberra Light Rail Extension Project, this is a long-term career opportunity with John Holland. 
As a Senior Project Engineer, with the support of your team, you will coordinate on-site engineering functions for the Project, to achieve time and budget objectives and provide efficient support for construction activities. 
Reporting into the Rail Construction Manager, some responsibilities will include development of procurement packages, scheduling, forecasting, reporting and being the interface between clients/consultants/suppliers. You will manage quality, completions and work closures, as well as team management and coordination.

 

Responsibilities of the role include: 
•    Manage on-site engineering functions through subordinates, which may include Project Engineers, and/or Cost/Planning Engineers
•    Drive install, integration and test & commissioning activities as required  
•    Obtain relevant design parameter information for incorporation into detailed designs and construction specifications 
•    Coordinate the activities of an engineering team, programme workloads and provide technical and administrative guidance to the engineering staff to ensure aims and objectives are effectively and economically achieved
•    Ensure that project engineering completion is on time and within budget. Record completed work, costs incurred, materials used and retain progress drawings 
•    Accurate forecasts of costs and revenue and utilise corrective action in line with JH’s authority and reporting frameworks to maximise the profit margin 
•    Assign work and assist with reviews for accuracy and adherence to required standards of supplier, subcontractor quotations/purchase orders as well as subcontractor arrangements
•    Participate in planning future requirements. Direct site surveys and preparatory work prior to construction as required.
•    Liaise with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers and planning authorities to ensure satisfactory completion of structures and construction work
•    Perform all duties in accordance with John Holland policies, processes, systems, reporting and procedures

 

To be in the successful role, you will have: 

•    Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent  
•    Demonstrated post graduate engineering experience with site based preferred
•    Experience on Major heavy/light Rail Projects 
•    Advanced commercial acumen including cost reduction and meeting budgets
•    Understanding of the Quality Management Plan. Safety Management Plan, Environmental Management Plan and Projects Design Management Plan
•    Quantitative and qualitative safety, environment and quality risk management
•    Excellent client relationship and stakeholder management
•    People and performance management including the performance of subcontractors
•    Effective time management skills
•    You need to be able to meet any requirements which are necessary to safely perform your role
