About the Project

 

The Linewide Alliance, comprising John Holland, Alstom, RATP Dev, KBR and WSP, are excited to be delivering the transformative Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) East Linewide package.

 

When SRL opens, the new rail services for passengers will also be delivered by, a venture between RATP Dev and John Holland to operate and maintain the franchise for 15 years from 2035, to be known as TransitLinx.

 

The Alliance will deliver a world-class, service-proven driverless metro system that sets new benchmarks for comfort, safety, and reliability for Melbourne.

 

SRL is a transport and urban planning project that will deliver world-class public transport, reduce travel times, and support the delivery of more homes and housing.

 

About the Role

 

As Engineering Manager, you will be involved in the leadership and direction of the SRL Linewide Package M&E scope including electrical, mechanical, TVS/TVCS, fire, controls and hydraulics. You will be responsible for the engineering function and deliverables relating to this scope, inclusive of Design, Digital Engineering, Temporary Works integration, Construction Phase Services and technical stakeholder management, through Linewide Alliance delivery. 

 

Your responsibilities include ensuring the Linewide Alliance design deliverables comply with the Linewide Alliance requirements, support the construction program, meet stakeholder requirements, and maintain a strong focus on driving positive outcomes across safety, quality, environment, stakeholders, community, and time. 

 

As a member of the Engineering Team, you will facilitate the internal interfaces between Design and Construction teams in addition to managing external interfaces with key stakeholders, ensuring construction issues are identified and incorporated into the Linewide Alliance documentation and that engineering requirements are observed in 
construction methodology planning. 

What you will do;

 

• Support the establishment and maintenance of a positive culture within the Linewide Alliance Engineering and Design Management team.
• Exhibit leadership in health, safety, environmental, sustainability and risk management.
• Maintain relationships across Alliance functional teams and with interfacing Works Packages. 
• Understand design compliance and reporting procedures and processes and leadership in the communication of requirements. 
• Create and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to facilitate a collaborative and positive design review process for obtainment of required approvals.
• Facilitate timely decision making, appropriate assessment of change requests and opportunities for early commencement of works. 
• Promote consideration of temporary works requirements in permanent works design development. 
• Provide engineering services to the Delivery Team during site works. 
• Plan and control the delivery of Linewide Alliance design to ensure the achievement of quality, completion, and Linewide Alliance objectives.
• Monitor the management of design risks and issues. 
• Drive application of value engineering and sustainability initiatives. 
• Manage the design approval process in accordance with Linewide Alliance requirements and program. 
• Manage client and stakeholder expectations and communicate effectively with the Linewide Alliance team.  
• Foster the interaction between design and construction teams to maximise innovation and Linewide Alliance success. 
• Ensure that JH Safety in Design requirements are achieved 
• Examine Linewide Alliance change requests as requested, and advise on related engineering matters. 
• Coordinate the activities of outside engineering consultants (sub-consultants, Temporary Works/ Proof Engineer). 

What we are looking for;

 

Qualification:

• Tertiary qualification in Engineering – Electrical, mechanical, mechatronics, or Controls.

• Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartership with Engineer’s Australia.

 

Experience:

• Demonstrated experience in engineering and technical management roles. 
• Multidiscipline experience specialising in design, engineering, and construction with specific experience in civil and structures. 
• Management of technical teams in the delivery of design and engineering solutions for bids and Alliances, including planning and budget management. 
• Financial management skills in planning and managing budgets included demonstrated behaviour in reducing costs. 
• Experienced in technical stakeholder management with focus on relationship building, influencing, communication and negotiation skills, particularly with design partners. 
• Quantitative and qualitative design risk identification, assessment, controls, and management. 
• Demonstrated ability to manage work and performance of teams. 
• Problem-solving, influencing and negotiation skills. 
• Strong written, verbal and presentation skills.
