About the Project
The Linewide Alliance, comprising John Holland, Alstom, RATP Dev, KBR and WSP, are excited to be delivering the transformative Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) East Linewide package.
When SRL opens, the new rail services for passengers will also be delivered by, a venture between RATP Dev and John Holland to operate and maintain the franchise for 15 years from 2035, to be known as TransitLinx.
The Alliance will deliver a world-class, service-proven driverless metro system that sets new benchmarks for comfort, safety, and reliability for Melbourne.
SRL is a transport and urban planning project that will deliver world-class public transport, reduce travel times, and support the delivery of more homes and housing.
About the Role
The Power Technical Manager will lead the Engineering, construction oversight, and commissioning phases of various Power disciplines such as high-voltage (HV) power systems, Traction power systems, power SCADA, protection testing, and earthing and bonding.
This role will provide technical leadership, ensure compliance with standards, and deliver innovative solutions for projects across rail, infrastructure, and energy sectors. The successful candidate will be instrumental in driving project success through technical excellence, stakeholder management, and a strong understanding of power systems.
What you will do;
Technical Leadership
Lead the design and engineering of HV power systems, traction power systems, and related components, ensuring compliance with technical specifications, industry standards, and project requirements.
Provide expert advice on power SCADA systems, protection testing, and earthing and bonding strategies.
EMI and EMC Mitigation measures and recommendations
Oversee the preparation, review, and approval of technical documentation, including specifications, drawings, calculations, and reports.
Drive innovation in power system solutions to optimize performance, cost, and safety.
Ensure technical alignment across multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
Project Delivery
Manage end-to-end engineering process, support procurement, construction, and commissioning of power systems, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality.
Monitor progress and provide technical support during construction and commissioning phases.
Lead testing and commissioning activities, including validation of protection systems, SCADA integration, and earthing and bonding effectiveness.
Proactively manage risks and issues related to power systems, identifying solutions and mitigating potential impacts.
Stakeholder Engagement
Collaborate with clients, contractors, consultants, RTO and regulatory bodies to align project outcomes with expectations and compliance requirements.
Provide technical input during tendering, procurement, and contract negotiations.
Represent the organisation in technical discussions, workshops, and design reviews.
Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure seamless project execution.
Team Leadership and Development
Provide leadership, training, and mentoring to junior engineers and multidisciplinary teams.
Foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
Manage resource allocation to ensure optimal project delivery.
What we are looking for;
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
Master degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
Professional Engineer (CPEng and NER)
Rail Industry Worker
Experience
Demonstrated major projects experience throughout the entire lifecycle of Major Projects in the Design & Engineering, Construction and Delivery, and Commissioning of power systems, Operation and Maintenance during DLP in HV power, traction power, power SCADA, protection testing, and earthing and bonding.
Experience across various Major Project Industries (Rail, Oil & Gas, Utilities)
Strong technical expertise in rail and infrastructure projects, including traction power and EMI/EMC implication, HV, LV and E&B.
Proven track record of delivering complex projects in a multidisciplinary environment.
Experience with testing and commissioning of protection systems and SCADA integration
