About the Role

As the Construction Manager for Euroa/Benalla, you will oversee the planning, coordination, and delivery of all project scope within the Euroa and Benalla areas as part of the Beveridge to Albury Tranche 2 project. Your role will involve working closely with project teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders to ensure the successful completion of works that align with project timelines, safety standards, and objectives.


Collaboration will be integral to your success, as you will coordinate with multiple disciplines across various sites to drive the safe, efficient, and cost-effective execution of all activities, while maintaining the highest standards of quality.


This is an exciting opportunity to lead and contribute to the delivery of a significant infrastructure project within the Northern region of Victoria. This role is site based and required the successful applicant to be full time onsite at Euroa/Benalla.

Project Description

Inland Rail is transforming how goods are moved around Australia, connecting Melbourne and Brisbane via regional Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. This 1,700km fast freight backbone will complete our national freight network – better connecting producers to markets and creating new opportunities for regional businesses, industries and communities. 


The Beveridge to Albury (B2A) project is the Victorian portion of the program undertaken along approximately 305 kms of existing northeast rail corridor between Beveridge and Albury. B2A is staged in two tranches. Tranche 1 includes enhancement works across four sites and corridor wide works.


Tranche 2 works will be delivered by John Holland and includes adjustment of track alignments, the provision of new road overbridges and station modifications to enable the safe operation of double-stack freight trains across eight B2A project sites between Wandong and Benalla. 

Responsibilities of the role include

Overall responsibility for the role on this high-profile major project includes:
•    Oversee all construction activities across the Euroa and Benalla areas, ensuring compliance with client expectations, company objectives, and contractual obligations while applying contemporary practices in construction methodology.
•    Procure necessary resources for assigned projects
•    Review and authorise construction planning, programming and completion schedules
•    Review and authorise engagement of subcontractors, management of subcontractor work to achieve outcomes, and all major subcontract variations
•    Assist in the implementation, monitoring and review of a construction management plan
•    Monitor progress, ensuring that work quality and techniques are of a high standard and report regularly on project performance, and cost against company objectives
•    Ensure correct supervisory levels, construction cost, schedule and change management are implemented
•    Ensure that HSE requirements and risk controls are considered in all construction planning and processes
•    Stakeholder management: Ensure that stakeholders are actively engaged and that beneficial relationships between the project and the client, subcontractors, community and other external parties are developed and maintained
•    People management: Develop a high performance team to ensure the project has the capability to achieve targets
•    Financial management: Ensure strong contract, commercial and financial risk management, accurate forecasting of both costs and revenue, take corrective action in line with JH’s authority and reporting frameworks and maximise the profit margin for the project 
•    Perform all duties in accordance with John Holland policies, processes, systems and procedures.

To be successful in this key role, you must have

•    Minimum 15 years’ experience gained on construction, engineering or associated projects
•    In depth knowledge of contemporary practices in construction methodology 
•    Contractual, legal, commercial, industrial relations and legislative compliance management experience
•    People and performance management experience including industrial relations
•    Advanced financial management experience including cost reduction and meeting budgets
•    Experience in development and delivery of a process and/or product system of audits and schedules 
•    Advanced skills in relevant computer software packages
•    Quantitative and qualitative safety, environment and quality risk assessment skills
•    A proactive and solution-focused mindset with strong attention to detail.
•    Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and environmental standards.
•    Experience working on rail or large-scale infrastructure projects will be highly regarded.
•    Current driver's license and the ability to travel to various sites as required.
