About the Role / Are you up for the challenge?

 

As Environmental Advisor, you will play a critical role in ensuring the successful delivery of the Beveridge to Albury Seymour and Tallarook sites, whilst also assisting where possible at the other enhancement sites as required. This role is crucial in driving environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives.

 

You will work closely with project teams, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure that all works are conducted with respect for the environment and in accordance with regulatory requirements and John Holland’s environmental policies.

 

Project Description

 

Inland Rail is transforming how goods are moved around Australia, connecting Melbourne and Brisbane via regional Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. This 1,700km fast freight backbone will complete our national freight network – better connecting producers to markets and creating new opportunities for regional businesses, industries and communities.

 

The Beveridge to Albury (B2A) project is the Victorian portion of the program undertaken along approximately 305 kms of existing northeast rail corridor between Beveridge and Albury. B2A is staged in two tranches. Tranche 1 includes enhancement works across four sites and corridor wide works, this is completed by others.

 

Tranche 2 works will be delivered by John Holland and includes adjustment of track alignments, the provision of new road overbridges and station modifications to enable the safe operation of double-stack freight trains across eight B2A project sites between Wandong and Benalla.

 

Responsibilities of the role include / What you will do;

 

 

Overall responsibility for the role on this high-profile major project includes:

  • Implement and monitor the project Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP) to ensure compliance with relevant environmental legislation, standards, and contractual obligations.
  • Conduct site inspections, audits, and environmental monitoring to identify and address potential environmental risks or non-conformances.
  • Provide expert advice and support to project teams regarding environmental practices, controls, and mitigation measures.
  • Liaise with regulatory authorities, local councils, and other stakeholders as required to maintain compliance and resolve environmental matters.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate documentation, including reports, permits, and environmental records.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of training and awareness programs to promote environmental responsibility across the project team.
  • Drive continuous improvement in environmental outcomes by identifying and implementing best practices and innovative solutions.
  • Actively manage environmental risks associated with the Seymour and Tallarook sites, including erosion control, vegetation management, and cultural heritage considerations.

 

To be successful in this key role, you must have / What we are looking for;

 

  • A tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Strong understanding of environmental legislation, standards, and best practices in the construction or infrastructure sector.
  • Proven experience in an environmental advisory role on large-scale infrastructure, rail, or civil projects.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills to engage effectively with internal teams, contractors, and external parties.
  • Ability to identify and resolve environmental risks in a practical, proactive manner.
  • A valid driver’s license and flexibility to work on-site as required.
