About the project


Gold Coast Light Rail has transformed public transport on the Gold Coast, helping create an integrated network that connects more people to more places in one of Australia's most dynamic and fastest growing cities.


John Holland is GoldlinQ's recommended design and construction contractor for GCLR3, to extend the existing light rail network by 6.7 kms from Broadbeach to Burleigh Heads, including eight new light rail stations, two new light rail-bus connections, and intersection upgrades along the alignment.


Jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments, and the City of Gold Coast, this city-shaping project will link communities to business centres, shopping, dining, education and medical facilities and cater to the Gold Coast’s expected population growth in the coming decades.

Currently we have an opportunity for a top performing Project Engineer to join this iconic Queensland project. Key initial activities will be to provide onsite engineering services and technical support to ensure short term planning and programming of works is completed in conjunction with the site supervision staff


Key accountabilities include.


  • Managing civil and building trade packages of work to ensure activities are planned and delivered in advance of their target date.
  • Ensure all works are planned and delivered in compliance with required drawings, technical specifications, applicable legislation, approvals and standards and deed obligations.
  • Management of cost codes including engagement of subcontractors, management of subcontractor work and all major subcontractor variations
  • Ensuring that stakeholders are actively engaged and that beneficial relationships between all parties (both internal and external) are developed.
  • Showing strong commercial awareness, representing the projects best interests and providing monthly reports and forecasts.
  • An absolute commitment to Safety, ensuring OH&S requirements and risk controls are considered in all construction planning and processes.

Does this sound like you?


  • 5 - 8 years civil & building construction engineering with an emphasis on Building construction
  • Management & coordination of building trades from the tender phase through to completion and handover to the client.
  • Wide level of planning, development and review of complex projects
  • Skill in use of document and record management, progress and project performance reporting compliance and procedures
  • Understanding of contemporary practices in construction methodology on civil & building infrastructure projects
  • Appreciation of the importance of ‘One Team’ understanding the importance of partnering with project support teams such as Safety, Quality, Community and Environment.
  • Ability to engage with and communicate at all levels driving positive outcomes
  • Relationship building, influencing and negotiation skills, preferably having managed Site and/or Graduate Engineers previously.
