Gold Coast Light Rail has transformed public transport on the Gold Coast, helping create an integrated network that connects more people to more places in one of Australia's most dynamic and fastest growing cities.


John Holland is GoldlinQ's recommended design and construction contractor for GCLR3, to extend the existing light rail network by 6.7 kms from Broadbeach to Burleigh Heads, including eight new light rail stations, two new light rail-bus connections, and intersection upgrades along the alignment.


Jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments, and the City of Gold Coast, this city-shaping project will link communities to business centres, shopping, dining, education and medical facilities and cater to the Gold Coast’s expected population growth in the coming decades.

We are now recruiting for Traffic Engineers to join the Gold Coast Light Rail Traffic team. Reporting to the Traffic Manager you will be responsible for the planning and delivery of traffic management required to deliver the Gold Coast Light Rail – Stage 3 Project.


As a Traffic Engineer on the Gold Coast Light Rail – Stage 3 project you will be responsible for but not limited to the following;


  • Assisting the Traffic Manager in the performance of their duties
  • Instructing personnel in the operational procedures associated with the relevant Construction Traffic Management Plans and Vehicle Movement Plans
  • Developing Construction Transport Management Plans and Traffic Guidance Schemes and obtaining the associated approvals.
  • Managing subcontractors to perform works, related to implementing traffic changes (Signage and line marking) and general civil related contractors.
  • Assisting in coordinating Road Safety Audits, ensuring that recommendations are addressed
  • Ensuring that Traffic Management Plans are implemented in accordance with the relative standards for Queensland.
  • Ensuring all traffic management personnel, plant and equipment are available to meet the requirements of the construction program
  • Investigating all traffic incidents and community concerns which relate to traffic issues associated with their precincts
  • Keeping accurate records and providing weekly reports of all planned, implemented and cancelled traffic impacts
  • Notifying the Traffic Manager in the event of an incident, overrun or cancellation
  • Actively communicating all aspects of the Traffic Management Team requirements and expectations with the wider project team
  • Daily monitoring and reporting as and when required
  • Develop long term traffic staging schemes, in consultation with design consultants.
  • Provides input to Traffic Manager for preparation of monthly reports.

About you


To be considered for these roles you will be required to have the following;


  • Bachelor of Technology in Civil Engineering or higher
  • Traffic Management Designer (Open) TMR Accreditation
  • Good understanding of the MUTCD, QGTTM, AGTTM, Austroads, RPDM and AS1742.3 - 2019
  • 5 years’ experience as a Traffic Engineer
  • Competent in Excel and Word
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
