Fortitude Valley, QLD, AU, 4006
About John Holland
At John Holland, our purpose is simple – we transform lives with everything we do.
We’ve always known that infrastructure is about people — our customers, our employees, and the communities in which we work every day.
That’s our difference. Deep experience and capability with a genuine care about creating better lives for people along the way.
Be part of the team that’s up for the challenge of transforming lives for good.
Are you up for the challenge?
We are seeking a Sanctions and Export Control Lead to manage John Holland’s compliance with the US Sanctions and Export Control Policy, ensuring the company adheres to all applicable legal and regulatory requirements, mitigates the risk of non-compliance, and protects its operations, reputation, and stakeholders.
Based in our Brisbane office in Fortitude Valley, this role is responsible for implementing, monitoring and administering the policy effectively across all business functions. This includes supplier and partner screening, risk assessment, employee training, record keeping, and ensuring ongoing alignment with updates to US sanctions and export control regulations.
About the Role
- Assisting with the design of the Sanctions and Export Control Processes by collaborating with stakeholders, researching applicable laws and regulations, identifying risks, proposing improvements, and developing workflows, tools, and templates for implementation.
- Drafting for approval the Sanctions and Export Control Procedure by creating a detailed document with clear steps, roles, and responsibilities, ensuring compliance with legal requirements, addressing risks, and finalising for approval after incorporating feedback from stakeholders.
- Applying the Sanctions and Export Control Procedure by implementing it across business functions, training staff on compliance roles, monitoring adherence, addressing non‑compliance issues, and communicating updates as needed.
- Assisting with resourcing for the procedure by assessing staffing needs, developing a resource plan, recommending recruitment or training, and collaborating with HR to define relevant roles and qualifications.
- Managing direct report/s as required by supervising, mentoring, assigning tasks, monitoring progress, and providing guidance, feedback, and evaluations to enhance efficiency and ensure deadlines are met.
- Maintaining the central register of supplier status and sanctioned entities (countries, companies, and individuals) by regularly updating and ensuring accuracy. Monitor regulatory updates, control access for relevant staff, and integrate these registers with procurement systems to flag compliance risks.
- Screening all John Holland suppliers for compliance by implementing due diligence protocols, conducting supplier checks against sanctioned entity registers, collaborating with procurement for ongoing reviews, and documenting records for audits and reporting.
- Providing regular and ad hoc reporting by generating periodic compliance reports, responding to ad hoc requests, and using data insights to support decision‑making and improve compliance processes.
- Performing all duties in accordance with John Holland policies, processes, systems and procedures.
