About John Holland
At John Holland, our purpose is simple – we transform lives with everything we do.
We’ve always known that infrastructure is about people — our customers, our employees, and the communities in which we work every day.
That’s our difference. Deep experience and capability with a genuine care about creating better lives for people along the way.
Be part of the team that’s up for the challenge of transforming lives for good.
Turn Complex Technical Content into Training People Actually Want to Do
Do you love taking complex, technical, “too-long-to-read” content and turning it into training that’s clear, engaging, and genuinely useful?
We’re looking for a Training Development Specialist to join John Holland’s Training Academy, a national team of 18 who are collaborative, supportive, and passionate about training at John Holland.
This is not a role for someone who simply “takes a brief and builds slides.” This is for someone who can extract and shape expert knowledge, write with clarity and impact, and rapidly convert dense material into learning that lands.
The purpose of the role is to design and develop engaging technical training solutions across multiple formats, working closely with SMEs to ensure content is accurate, relevant and fit-for-purpose.
What you’ll be doing (and doing well)
Partnering with SMEs and stakeholders (with confidence and structure)
You’ll work directly with subject matter experts and stakeholders to clarify needs, define the problem to solve, and shape the right solution, with a methodical approach that keeps momentum and builds trust.
Transforming complexity into engaging training
You’ll take complex, often unstructured technical content and translate it into clear, learner-friendly training. This involves applying strong copywriting and storytelling skills to make the information engaging and easy to comprehend. Additionally, you'll use visual design techniques, such as diagrams, infographics, and workflows, to enhance understanding and maintain engagement.
Designing and developing learning across multiple formats
You’ll create training solutions including:
- eLearning modules, including interactive builds using Articulate Rise 360
- Instructor-led and blended learning resources, including the build of engaging PowerPoint slides with facilitator notes and learner resources
- Instructional videos and multimedia learning assets
- Project inductions and technical training content
Applying visual and multimedia capability
You’ll utilise tools such as Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop to develop visually compelling learning assets and support the production of multimedia content (video, animation, digital learning assets).
Driving quality, consistency and efficiency
You’ll contribute to standardising learning content approaches, ensuring improved consistency across training outputs. This will enable scalable and repeatable rollouts of training initiatives across the business.
Improving and refining learning through feedback
You’ll implement feedback mechanisms, evaluate training effectiveness, and continually refine content to lift engagement and retention.
What you’ll bring
Essential
- Proven experience designing and developing training across eLearning and instructor-led delivery
- Strong instructional design capability (e.g. ADDIE)
- Excellent written communication and copywriting skills
- Experience working with SMEs to extract, structure, and refine content
- Strong stakeholder engagement and consulting capability
- Experience using eLearning authoring tools (e.g. Articulate 360)
- Experience with visual/multimedia tools (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite - Illustrator, Photoshop and Indesign).
- Experience using a PC = non-Apple computer (Windows)
- Experience using Microsoft products (e.g. Outlook, PowerPoint, Word)
Highly regarded
- Experience developing training within construction and engineering environments.
Qualifications
- Ideally, the role should be supported by a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, along with qualifications in instructional design, graphic design, and eLearning instructional design.
Why join the Training Academy?
The Training Academy is dedicated to delivering high-quality, scalable and cost-efficient training services across John Holland, bringing training tools, resources, services and support together in one place.
You’ll join a national team that partners closely across the business to improve capability, consistency, and outcomes.
