About Inland Rail
Inland Rail is transforming how goods are moved around Australia, connecting Melbourne and Brisbane via regional Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. This 1,700km fast freight backbone will complete our national freight network – better connecting producers to markets and creating new opportunities for regional businesses, industries and communities.
The Illabo to Stockinbingal project is about 39km of new rail corridor located within the local government areas of Junee and Cootamundra-Gundagai. This new section of rail corridor will provide a direct route from east of Illabo, tracking north to Stockinbingal and connecting into the existing Forbes rail line.
What is needed?
We are currently seeking experienced Area Managers to work on our newly awarded Illabo to Stockinbingal project (I2S) willing to explore a new opportunity in regional NSW.
We are looking for Area Managers with the experience listed below in the either of the following disciplines:
- Structures- Demonstrable experience in delivery of complex bridge structures, precast solutions, lift planning and temporary works design management
This role will be a Monday-Friday Sydney-based role until construction commences in July. The role will then be a 2:1 Roster based on site in Stockinbingal.
Responsibilities of the role include:
- Coordinate and administer construction engineering activities to ensure that projects are implemented in accordance with plans, designs and specifications
- Preparation of site construction budgets and reports
- Drive and monitor construction progress for adherence to programme
- Interpret designs for implementation in construction projects
- Demonstrate financial management skills and commercial acumen when making decisions
- Assign work to your team and assist with reviews for accuracy and adherence to required standards
- Execute working knowledge of contractual and legislation relevant to the project
- Undertake quantitative and qualitative safety, environment and quality risk assessment to ensure acceptable quality of structures and finishes
- Analyse and use document and record management, progress and project performance reporting compliance reporting ¬
- Demonstrate sound people management skills by managing work and performance of your team and subcontractors to achieve outcomes ¬
- Utilize effective time management skills including sequencing of work of own and resource time management ¬
- Perform all duties in accordance with John Holland policies, processes, systems, reporting and procedure
To be successful in this key role, you must have:
- Tertiary Bachelor qualifications in Civil/Structural Engineering or other relevant field/major
- Advanced commercial acumen including cost reduction and meeting budgets
- Minimum 10-12 years in management role on major projects
- Experience leading large teams at operational level
- Previous work in a rail environment and technical knowledge of related specifications preferred
- Has sound understanding of Rail Safety National Law, Rail Safety work and the responsibilities of duty holders
- Understanding of requirements of Project Design Management Plan, Quality Management Plan. Safety Management Plan and Environmental Management Plan
- Knowledge of project management principles, plans, specification, standards and implications for project accountabilities

- Experience on complex Rail/Infrastructure projects
- Willing to DIDO
- Be open to working a 2:1 roster (2 weeks on / 1 week off)
- Or, willing to relocate yourself within an hour’s commute of Cootamundra/Stockinbingal.
