John Holland has recently been announced as the preferred partner to deliver the Inland Rail, Illabo to Stockinbingal (I2S) works in NSW and we are seeking people interested in being part of the team that will deliver this critical project.
About Inland Rail
Inland Rail is transforming how goods are moved around Australia, connecting Melbourne and Brisbane via regional Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. This 1,700km fast freight backbone will complete our national freight network – better connecting producers to markets and creating new opportunities for regional businesses, industries and communities.
The Illabo to Stockinbingal project is about 39km of new rail corridor located within the local government areas of Junee and Cootamundra-Gundagai. This new section of rail corridor will provide a direct route from east of Illabo, tracking north to Stockinbingal and connecting into the existing Forbes rail line.
What is needed?
We are currently seeking an experienced Environment and Sustainability Manager for this regional NSW based project. The role will be primarily based in our Mascot office, but may require ad-hoc site travel when needed.
Responsibilities of the role include:
- Coordinate and provide day to day specialist sustainability and environmental support to stakeholders
- Provide operational environmental and sustainability guidance, diligence, consistency and discipline to business leaders to drive a culture of best practice
- Identification and effective management of sustainability and environmental risks
- Embed sustainability and environmental requirements into the design and procurement process and make sure accountabilities are communicated to the project team
- Support the tender process by providing environmental and sustainability technical input for projects under development.
- Liaise with government bodies and professional organisations on environmental and sustainability matters
- Establish, monitor and report on key sustainability and environmental performance objectives and standards for managing project risks and report to senior staff members
- Provide assistance and guidance to sustainability and environment professionals enabling them to deliver and lead contemporary approaches and practices
- Support the development of environmental and sustainability team personnel in leading practices and driving improvement
- Ensure John Holland adopts robust due diligence and risk management processes and understands and meets its regulatory and legal environmental obligations
- Monitor, measure and evaluate environment and sustainability performance in order to support the continuous improvement of John Holland’s systems and practice
To be successful in this key role, you must have:
- Mixed Enviro and Sustainability experience, but with work history focussed mainly on Environmental Management
- Specialist environmental and sustainability experience within the Construction industry ideally within a Tier 1 Contractor
- Experience with SSI/SSD/CSSI and management plans
- Demonstrated experience managing expert contractor and the technical advice they provide a project/operation
- Demonstrated experience with client teams and regulators
- Experience with EPBC desired but not mandatory
- Bachelor Degree in Environmental Engineering, Science, Sustainability or other associated disciplines
- Sound understanding of sustainability and environmental principles and application within the construction industry
- Understanding of environmental and sustainability management techniques and statutory approval processes
- Understanding of Federal, State and local environmental statutes and legislation
- Knowledge of tender requirements, project planning, development, implementation and review
- Specialist construction exposure for 5 or more years
- Ability to work autonomously to resolve issues
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
