About Inland Rail
Inland Rail is transforming how goods are moved around Australia, connecting Melbourne and Brisbane via regional Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. This 1,700km fast freight backbone will complete our national freight network – better connecting producers to markets and creating new opportunities for regional businesses, industries and communities.
 
The Illabo to Stockinbingal project is about 39km of new rail corridor located within the local government areas of Junee and Cootamundra-Gundagai. This new section of rail corridor will provide a direct route from east of Illabo, tracking north to Stockinbingal and connecting into the existing Forbes rail line.

 

What is needed?
We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Advisor to work on our newly awarded Illabo to Stockinbingal project (I2S) willing to explore a new opportunity in regional NSW. 

 

About the Role
As a Senior Environmental Advisor, you will work closely with the Project Environmental and Sustainability Manager to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, identify and manage environmental risks and help develop the capabilities to support the delivery of the project. 

As a project-based role, you will be responsible for providing sound advice on complex issues in relation to on-site environmental management on our project. You will work with the project delivery team to ensure adherence to environmental legislation, regulations, and contractual obligations.

This role will be a Monday-Friday Sydney-based role until construction commences in July. The role will then be a 2:1 Roster based on site in Stockinbingal.

 

Responsibilities of the role include:

  • Take leadership responsibility for site environmental management
  • Provide and take leadership responsibility in site environmental management
  • Contribute to development of work methods and rolling short term construction programs and plan daily/weekly production work
  • Build strong internal and external stakeholder relationships through proactive and professional communication to keep key personnel informed
  • Identify and mitigate risks prior to works commencing, communicate with and engage relevant stakeholders to control risk and contribute to build a risk management culture
  • Consult with workers to identify opportunities for efficiencies and streamlining of environmental processes, striving to be a leader within the industry
  • Gather and listen to feedback from stakeholders and peer groups on ways to improve environmental programs.
  • Support and act as an advocate for the JH SQE Risk Management process. Complete Workplace Risk Assessment (WRA) and Activity Method Statement (AMS) workshops and reviews
  • Complete field-based reviews and inspections, particularly for high-risk work activities (in line with the John Holland Global Mandatory Requirements (GMR) approach) 
  • Provide information on the effectiveness of controls to the business.

 

To be successful in this key role, you will have:

  • 3-5 years project construction experience preferably in Rail
  • Technical competency and understanding of Environmental scope
  • Tertiary qualifications in Environment or a related discipline
  • Skill in review of design documents, ability to understand drawings, provide constructability review and implement final design plans
  • People and Performance Management of subcontractors, suppliers and direct labour
  • A focus on solutions and the ability to empower others and drive positive project outcomes


About you:

  • Experience on complex Rail/Infrastructure projects
  • Willing to DIDO
  • Or, willing to relocate yourself within an hour’s commute of Cootamundra/Stockinbingal.
  • Be open to working a 2:1 roster (2 weeks on / 1 week off)
