About the Project


John Holland has recently been awarded the Illabo to Stockinbingal section of Inland Rail in NSW. The Illabo to Stockinbingal section is about 39km of new rail corridor located within the local government areas of Junee and Cootamundra-Gundagai. It will provide a direct route from east of Illabo, tracking north to Stockinbingal and connecting into the existing Forbes rail line.


Illabo to Stockinbingal is a DIDO Project, accommodation is provided on the 2:1 (2 weeks on / 1 week off) roster. 

 

About The Role

 

Senior Project Engineer – Earthworks 

 

  • Overseeing the planning, design, and analysis of earthworks components of construction projects, ensuring that they are completed according to specifications and within the designated timeframe.
  • Providing technical expertise and guidance on all aspects of earthworks, including soil mechanics, excavation, grading, and compaction.
  • Leading and managing a team of engineers and technical specialists, ensuring they work cohesively to achieve project goals.
  • Liaising between various project stakeholders, including other engineering disciplines, project management, contractors, and clients to ensure a coordinated approach to the earthworks phase.
  • Ensuring that all earthworks are completed to the highest quality standards and comply with industry regulations and standards.
  • Identifying potential risks associated with the earthworks and developing mitigation strategies to manage these risks effectively.
  • Assisting with budget preparation and managing costs related to earthworks, including monitoring expenditures and implementing cost-saving initiatives where possible.
  • Assisting with the procurement process, including the preparation of contract documents and the evaluation of tenders, as well as managing contracts throughout project execution.
  • Addressing and resolving complex engineering problems that may arise during the earthworks phase, offering innovative solutions to keep the project on track.
  • Developing and monitoring project schedules related to earthworks, ensuring that all milestones and deadlines are met.
  • Ensuring that all earthworks’ activities comply with legal and regulatory requirements, including environmental, safety, and building codes.
  • Preparing detailed reports on the project status, including progress, issues, and outcomes of the earthwork operations.
  • Reviewing earthworks processes and outcomes to identify opportunities for improvement and implementing changes to enhance future project performance.
  • Providing mentorship and professional development opportunities to less experienced engineers and team members

 

To be successful in this key role, you must have:

 

  • Degree qualified Civil Engineer, Construction Management or similar.
  • Previous experience within a Tier One contractor.
  • Delivery of infrastructure projects, with exposure to Civil, Bulk Earthworks, Roadworks and Rail construction.
  • Passion for teamwork and delivering on tight deadlines.
  • Excellent time management and prioritisation.
  • Understanding of HSEQ management systems, compliance, and reporting procedures.
  • Previous work in a rail environment and technical knowledge of related specifications preferred.
  • Has sound understanding of Rail Safety National Law, Rail Safety work and the responsibilities of duty holders.
  • Demonstratable experience as Senior Project Engineer at site operational level and leader of engineering team.
