Inland Rail is transforming how goods are moved around Australia, connecting Melbourne and Brisbane via regional Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. This 1,700km fast freight backbone will complete our national freight network – better connecting producers to markets and creating new opportunities for regional businesses, industries and communities.
 
The Illabo to Stockinbingal project is about 39km of new rail corridor located within the local government areas of Junee and Cootamundra-Gundagai. This new section of rail corridor will provide a direct route from east of Illabo, tracking north to Stockinbingal and connecting into the existing Forbes rail line.

 

What is needed?
We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Rail Safe Working Advisor to work on our newly awarded Illabo to Stockinbingal project (I2S) willing to explore a new opportunity in regional NSW. 

 

This role's key purpose is to implement and control Rail Safety Management requirements, strategies and initiatives across the workplace and report progress to the Safety Manager, Project Manager and Project leadership team.

 

This role will be a Monday-Friday Sydney-based role until construction commences in July. The role will then be a 2-1 Roster based on site in Stockinbingal.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and administer rail education and compliance programs for employees, clients, contractors and visitors
  • Guide and support the Project Leadership Team to develop and implement a rail safety culture that aligns to the company vision, including adequate development and training in safety critical roles
  • Ensure the projects maintains robust risk management processes, capability, focus and discipline related to rail safety
  • Initiate and administer rail safety improvement, education and compliance programs for workplaces within the region
  • Investigate all causes of events on site and recommend actions to prevent future occurrences
  • Provide specialist Rail Safety support to internal stakeholders including operational leaders, project employees, contractors, clients and visitors
  • Coordinate and provide day to day Rail Safety specialist support to internal stakeholders including the Project Leadership team, employees, contractors, clients and visitors during the project lifecycle 
  • Develop and guide project safety professionals to ensure day to day specialist project support
  • Ensure the project understands and have the tools to meet their regulatory and legal Rail safety obligations 
  • Maintain comprehensive Rail safety records, manage statutory rail reporting requirements and monitor rail safety performance progress
  • Maintain an update-to-date knowledge of relevant legal, regulatory and company rail safety requirements, ensuring workplace are informed of relevant changes 
  • Support the effectiveness of the consultative framework and communicate rail safety matters to management and staff as appropriate
  • Perform all duties in accordance with John Holland policies, processes, systems and procedures
  • To act as a Competency Assessor, for specific disciplines approved, in accordance with JH Procedures and to exercise professional integrity when making an assessment judgement based on the evidence provided.

Essential Experience: 

  • Construction Rail Safety 
  • Audit management practices
  • Quantitative and qualitative risk assessment and monitoring of risk controls and actions involved in delivery and implementation of projects
  • Knowledge of Safety legislation and statutes (especially those relating to Comcare and ARTC), and ability to interpret any applicable statutes or legislation relevant to Project
  • Knowledge of Environmental legislation and statutes

 

Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Workplace Health and Safety or equivalent
  • Safety Lead Auditor Qualification
  • Protection Officer Qualification (PO4 Desirable) 
  • TAE Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (Desirable) 

 

About you:

  • Experience on complex Rail/Infrastructure projects
  • Willing to DIDO  
  • Be open to working a 2:1 roster (2 weeks on / 1 week off)
  • Or, willing to relocate yourself within an hour’s commute
