About the Role

The Safety Manager will play a crucial role in the Logan Hospital Expansion project by implementing and controlling safety management requirements, strategies, and initiatives. They will ensure compliance with safety regulations, develop and maintain safety policies and procedures, conduct inspections and audits, and provide safety training to employees. Additionally, the Safety Manager will identify and assess potential hazards, investigate accidents and incidents, and coordinate with the Project Manager and Project leadership team to report progress on safety initiatives. Their expertise and dedication to maintaining a safe workplace will contribute to the overall success of the project.

Responsibilities of the role include:

  • Develop and administer education and compliance programs for employees, clients, contractors and visitors
  • Guide and support the Project Leadership Team to develop and implement a safety culture that aligns to the company vision, including adequate development and training in safety critical roles
  • Ensure the projects maintains robust risk management processes, capability, focus and discipline related to safety
  • Initiate and administer safety improvement, education and compliance programs for workplaces within the region
  • Align region and workplace Safety & Workers Compensation strategies with relevant JHG business plans and assist workplaces to implement them
  • ­Investigate all causes of events on site and recommend actions to prevent future occurrences
  • Provide specialist support to internal stakeholders including operational leaders, project employees, contractors, clients and visitors
  • Coordinate and provide day to day specialist support to internal stakeholders including the Project Leadership team, employees, contractors, clients and visitors during the project lifecycle ­ 
  • Develop and guide project safety professionals to ensure day to day specialist project support ­ 
  • Ensure the project understands and have the tools to meet their regulatory and legal safety obligations ­ 
  • Maintain comprehensive safety records, manage statutory reporting requirements and monitor safety performance progress ­ 
  • Maintain an update-to-date knowledge of relevant legal, regulatory and company safety requirements, ensuring workplace are informed of relevant changes ­ 
  • Support the effectiveness of the consultative framework and communicate safety matters to management and staff as appropriate ­ 
  • Perform all duties in accordance with John Holland policies, processes, systems and procedures

What we are looking for:

  • Advanced Diploma Safety in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent ­ Safety Lead Auditor Qualification
  • Bachelor degree in Quality, Safety, Environmental, Project Management or other associated disciplines ­ TAE Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
  • Construction safety management (5+ years) ­ Audit management practices (2-3 years)
  • Quantitative and qualitative risk assessment and monitoring of risk controls and actions involved in delivery and implementation of projects ­
  • Knowledge of Safety legislation and statutes (especially those relating to Comcare), and ability to interpret any applicable statutes or legislation relevant to Project ­
  • Knowledge of Environmental legislation and statutes, and ability to interpret any applicable statutes or legislation relevant to Project
