About the Project
John Holland is proud to be a key delivery partner on the Cross Yarra Partnership (CYP), responsible for the Operations & Maintenance of the transformative Metro Tunnel Project.
As part of this iconic infrastructure initiative, we’re seeking passionate professionals to help operate and maintain five world-class underground stations and associated tunnel systems.
This is your opportunity to work on cutting-edge transport infrastructure, ensuring safety, reliability, and performance for generations to come. Be part of a team that’s shaping the future of Melbourne’s rail network—above and below ground.
About the Role
Working for the John Holland Asset Management Services (AMS) team as part of the Cross Yarra Partnership, the Asset Reliability Engineer will ensure asset conditions and defects are monitored, analysed and reported to maximise safety, performance and lifecycle outcomes for the Melbourne Metro Tunnels and Stations.
The Asset Reliability Engineer will lead projects involving asset condition monitoring and will implement and develop processes to enhance the analytical insights the AMS team can gather from assets and operational technology. The role will require engagement with internal and external stakeholders such as the design and constructor (D&C), the State and the Train Franchisee to ensure that asset performance and defects are appropriately triaged and communicated.
A core responsibility of the Asset Reliability Engineer is to substantiate and document defects to support claims against the Design and Constructor during the Defects Liability Period (DLP), ensuring the business is positioned to secure the best outcomes under the contract. The role will also leverage condition monitoring insights to strengthen the case for defective systems where required.
Responsibilities of the role include
Lead the Defect Liability Period program by raising, tracking, analysing and substantiating defective infrastructure, and building evidence-based cases to support defect claims against the Design and Constructor
Develop technical reports, underpinned by data analysis and condition monitoring, that clearly demonstrate asset performance shortfalls or defects for escalation to stakeholders
Support the change management and writing of technical papers to support changes in maintenance frequencies or lifecycle renewals
Support the continued development of maintenance documentation such as the:
- Digital Engineering Management Plan
- Asset Management Plan
- Maintenance Management Plan
- Asset Management Manual
- Performance Monitoring Plan
Lead the asset condition monitoring project to enable RAMS and parameter trending of assets to support enhanced maintenance practices
Support the development of the CMMS to ensure asset reliability and defects are tracked efficiently
Participate in site visits to audit infrastructure and survey conditions
Engage with third parties as required to support defect identification and reliability tracking.
Ensure legislative obligations are met, including compliance with the relevant Building Codes and regulatory statutes
Contribute to activities to meet the requirements of contractual obligations, and ISO 55001 requirements
Work closely with legal, commercial, and engineering teams to ensure defect claims are technically substantiated and contractually defensible
To be successful in this role we are looking for

- Demonstrated competency in Engineering or Asset Management
- Experience in RAMS or other asset condition/performance monitoring
- Proven ability to develop clear, evidence-based reports and models that present asset defects, performance trends, and failure modes in a way that supports contractual claims and operational decision-making
