John Holland is at the forefront of Australia's infrastructure growth, and we are currently seeking an experienced and motivated Site Engineer - CSR to join our dynamic team on the transformative Inland Rail Beveridge to Albury Tranche 2 Project. This pivotal project is reshaping the transport and logistics landscape of Australia by enhancing the national freight network, and you have the chance to play a significant role in its success.
As a Site Engineer - CSR, you will be immersed in a variety of challenges that test your skills and grow your career. Your work will directly contribute to the project’s goals of better connecting communities and streamlining the movement of goods between major cities. You will be responsible for ensuring the technical aspects of civil construction are executed flawlessly, maintaining John Holland’s reputation for excellence in project delivery. The role is primarily based out of our main office in Docklands. However, it also will involve travel to various construction sites to ensure that project deliverables are achieved.
Project Description
Inland Rail is transforming how goods are moved around Australia, connecting Melbourne and Brisbane via regional Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. This 1,700km fast freight backbone will complete our national freight network – better connecting producers to markets and creating new opportunities for regional businesses, industries and communities.
The Beveridge to Albury (B2A) project is the Victorian portion of the program undertaken along approximately 305 kms of existing northeast rail corridor between Beveridge and Albury. B2A is staged in two tranches. Tranche 1 includes enhancement works across four sites and corridor wide works.
Tranche 2 works will be delivered by John Holland and includes adjustment of track alignments, the provision of new road overbridges and station modifications to enable the safe operation of double-stack freight trains across eight B2A project sites between Wandong and Benalla.
Responsibilities of the role include / What you will do;
- Oversee and manage the construction and implementation of civil and cable route works ensuring compliance with project specifications and design.
- Plan and coordinate the construction of civil elements of the Rail Signalling system and support other Rail Systems civil requirements.
- Liaise with multiple disciplines and collaborate with project teams across different sites to deliver multidisciplinary project components.
- Ensure all works are executed safely, adhering to John Holland's safety policies and procedures, and government regulations.
- Monitor project timelines and schedules to guarantee timely delivery of the civil and road works components.
- Control project costs and resources to ensure the economic viability of the civil works aspect of the project.
- Perform quality assurance checks to maintain high standards of construction and workmanship.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including the project management team, contractors, and community representatives, to maintain transparency and address any issues promptly.
- Provide technical support and guidance to the construction team, fostering a collaborative working environment.
To be successful in this key role, you must have / What we are looking for;
- A tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Proven experience in Civil and Rail construction, preferably with exposure to large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Strong understanding of construction methodologies related to civil engineering works.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage teams across multiple sites with a focus on safety, quality, and productivity.
- Proficient in project management, including planning, scheduling, and cost control.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to engage effectively with all levels of the organisation and external parties.
- A commitment to upholding health and safety standards and promoting a culture of safety within the team.
- Solid problem-solving skills and the ability to make informed decisions under pressure.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing project requirements and site-based conditions.
- A current driver's license.
