Job Description

We are looking to speak with experienced Tunnelling Construction Managers to join our Tunnelling team in Melbourne with opportunities focussed on works in both tender and delivery phase.

Responsibilities of the role typically include;

Provision of SME advice and leadership in the Tunnelling space nationally, contributing to tenders and forming part of our tunnel leadership team.

Assist in the development of strategies for successful conversion of opportunities into funded projects, managing tenders and relationships to ensure successful delivery of projects, ensuring that the tender (and/or relevant Tunnelling works) is financially viable, margin expectations achievable and risk complies with corporate guidelines.

Upon award, manage resources to deliver the projects within budget, program and HSQE standards, reviewing progress against delivery milestones and take effective remedial action as required.  This may be either as a stand-alone project, JV or package of works on major project.

Strong commercial acumen must be demonstrated, ensuring contract, commercial and financial risk management is understood and controlled, providing accurate forecasting of both costs.  You will typically manage a project/package of work in excess of $100m.

Ensure that stakeholders (both internal and external) are actively engaged, ensuring John Hollands interest are best represented in all dealings with. You must lead the team and play a key role in developing an engaged, committed culture utilising internal subject matter experts and external designers, vendors and sub-contractors delivering financially viable projects.

Where appropriate, develop and modify work processes, technology, or products, identify commercial innovations to positively differentiate JH from competitors


To be successful in this key role, you must have:

Tertiary qualification in Engineering with a minimum of 15 years of construction experience with 5-10 years project management (ideally including tendering exposure) in the Tunnelling sector with experience in TBM, Road Header and/or Drill & Blast operations.

Experience of successful delivery of self-performed and subcontracted works on projects in excess of AUD$300m including significant experience with EPB and Slurry TBMs and utilising NATM and drill and blast methods of construction. 

Proven experience in positive client/stakeholder relationship management skills, profitable delivery of programs of work, management and leadership of teams and P&L and an absolute appreciate for ‘Safety First’.

Familiarity with contractual, legal, commercial and legislative compliance and regulatory frameworks, specifically related to D&C projects.

Proven ability to communicate effectively to drive positive outcomes with key stakeholders.
