About the role & project


The Northern Hospital Redevelopment is an approximately $813 million Victorian Government project delivering significant expansions to one of Melbourne’s busiest hospitals. Delivered in a staged approach within a live hospital environment, the project includes a new Ambulatory Care Centre and a future Emergency Department and Inpatient Unit tower, increasing clinical capacity and modernising facilities to meet the needs of Melbourne’s growing northern communities.
 
As Contracts Administrator you will assist in the preparation, negotiation and award of subcontract packages, including the calling, assessment and recommendation of quotations. Provide day‑to‑day contract administration support across the project lifecycle, including managing subcontract variations, progress claims and compliance requirements, to support effective cost control, commercial management and contractual performance of the project.

Some responsibilities of the role include

 

  • Draft scopes of works and tender packages to accompany requests for quotations issued to subcontractors for projects
  • ­Conduct initial investigations with subcontractors to clarify the organisation’s conditions relating to contracts for prospective projects
  • ­Manage and drive the review process to ensure the award of all subcontractors within the required time frame and budget
  • ­Maintain a register of subcontractors
  • ­Operate and maintain commercial and contract systems including Project Costs Reporting (PCR), Asset Registers, Commercial Pack database and Contract Sum.
  • ­Minimise all subcontractor variation claims and elimination of claims where possible
  • ­Ensure cost forecasting for allocated subcontracts and cost codes are accurately maintained and keep project management teams abreast of any costs issues immediately upon identification

About you


You will hold a degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Economics, Quantity Surveying, Law, Commerce or a related discipline, with postgraduate qualifications in areas such as Commerce, Accounting, Business, Construction, Property, Quantity Surveying or Law highly regarded. You bring 2–5 years’ experience working as a Contracts Administrator or Quantity Surveyor within the construction or engineering industry, with exposure to projects of varying size and complexity. You have a strong foundation in commercial and contract administration, with proven experience negotiating with subcontractors and supporting cost control outcomes. You are proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, and have experience using contract or document management systems. Your ability to interpret contractual documentation and relevant legislation, maintain accurate document control in line with records management procedures, and proactively manage commercial risk will support the successful delivery of complex projects.
