We are currently looking for an experienced Contracts Lead to join us, based on our Project in Pakenham.

About the Role

Whilst you will be initially based on the North Western Program Alliance, this is a long-term career opportunity with John Holland.

 

As the Contracts Lead, you will direct and control Commercial procurement management and contracts administration functions. Through this, you will ensure project financial, operational and legal requirements are met or exceeded, whilst minimising procurement risks. You will also oversee the work of Contracts Administrators in efficient and accurate subcontract establishment and administration. 

Responsibilities of the role include;

  • Ensure the establishment and maintenance of a project procurement schedule identifying all key data in relation to each tender/subcontract
  • Ensure selected subcontractors and suppliers are acceptable to the project.
  • Conduct negotiations with subcontractors and ensure all subcontractor agreements are closely aligned to the project’s risk management principals
  • Oversee the procurement process for all subcontract and supply agreements to ensure that all packages are awarded on time and within budget
  • Oversee the calling of quotations and letting of tenders for contracts to be let. Ensure effective contract administration, in conjunction with operations personnel and contract administrators. 
  • Interpret and apply relevant legislation/code on the project to prevent potential business exposure
  • Manage any disputes or major claims with subcontractors
  • Supervise the contract administration team to ensure all subcontracts are administered in accordance with relevant legislation and the conditions and provisions of the subcontract including correspondence/notices, variations, extensions of time, payment claims, payments and close out. Oversee the preparation of monthly progress claims for work completed and approve disputed progress payments to subcontractors as referred by contract administrators
  • Systems: Contribute to the maintenance / improvement of the Alliance suite of subcontracts and other standard procurement and approval forms, templates and systems
  • Reporting: Regular reporting to both the Project Commercial Manager and Project Delivery team on procurement status, subcontract financial commitments, risks/liabilities and critical subcontract issues.
  • Stakeholder management: Ensure that internal project stakeholders are actively engaged as necessary in procurement processes e.g. environment/ sustainability, community consultation, social procurement and industrial relations representatives
  • People management: Monitor Contracts Administration staff resourcing and performance to ensure the project has the capability to achieve targets and foster a high-performance team
  • Financial management: Ensure strong contract, commercial and financial risk management in procurement and contract administration functions on the project
  • Perform all duties in accordance with John Holland policies, processes, systems and procedures
     

To be successful in this role, you will have;

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent in Law, Commerce, Accounting, Quantity Surveying, Business or associated disciplines 
  • Construction Management qualification or equivalent
  • CA/CPA
  • More than 7 years’ of relevant commercial experience in the construction and engineering industry 
  • Contractual management of a variety of project values and complexities
  • Negotiation of contractual terms, variations/EOTs and progress claims
  • Demonstrated application of Corporate Limits of Liabilities and contractual and commercial systems, processes and procedures
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in relevant software packages such as Microsoft Suite (including Excel) and exposure to a contract management system (CRM)
  • The ability to travel to and work on-site in the outer south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne
