John Holland is seeking a Cost Planning Manager – Major Projects to join the team in Melbourne. The role will lead and manage sector / regional cost planning and estimating operations for the building business to ensure a consistent and professional approach to all project costing activities and lead in the development and execution of cost planning strategies to win new and profitable business.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Oversee the sector / regional cost planning and estimating (CP&E) operations for the Building Business
  • Develop and manage a high-performance sector / regional CP&E team to ensure the Building Business has the capability to achieve business targets
  • Lead CP&E training, skilling and knowledge transfer across the regions and business
  • Promote open and transparent communication as appropriate to encourage understanding of all stakeholder requirements
  • Monitor performance of subordinates to ensure high standards of technical performance in CP&E functions
  • Review and signoff cost plans and estimates including all qualifications and clarifications to the client
  • Prepare feasibility / budget cost plans to assist in project identification
  • Review project cost optimisation and profit enhancement strategies
  • Develop and maintain strategic business relationships with external Quantity Surveying houses
  • Liaise with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers and authorities to ensure satisfactory completion of CP&E functions

Experience / Qualifications required:

  • Degree in Engineering, Science, Building Construction or equivalent degree
  • Minimum 15 years’ experience including estimating and management Experience Essential
  • Management of multidisciplinary projects and project teams
  • Contemporary practices in design and construction methodology
  • Contractual, legal, commercial, industrial relations and legislative compliance management
  • Advanced financial management including cost reduction and meeting budgets
  • Quantitative and qualitative safety, environment and quality risk management
