About the Role / Are you up for the challenge?

 

As Engineering Coordinator, your role will be to assist senior members of the Engineering Team in managing the design delivery process by coordinating technical partner designs across multiple disciplines and ensuring the active engagement of construction personnel during design development, providing a line of communication between site personnel (Project Engineers and Senior Project Engineers) to the Design Team to assist with constructability inputs and management of RFIs and Change Requests.

 

Project Description

 

Inland Rail is transforming how goods are moved around Australia, connecting Melbourne and Brisbane via regional Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. This 1,700km fast freight backbone will complete our national freight network – better connecting producers to markets and creating new opportunities for regional businesses, industries and communities. 
The Beveridge to Albury (B2A) project is the Victorian portion of the program undertaken along approximately 305 kms of existing northeast rail corridor between Beveridge and Albury. B2A is staged in two tranches. Tranche 1 includes enhancement works across four sites and corridor wide works. 
Tranche 2 works will be delivered by John Holland and includes adjustment of track alignments, the provision of new road overbridges and station modifications to enable the safe operation of double-stack freight trains across eight B2A project sites between Wandong and Benalla. 

 

Responsibilities of the role include / What you will do;

 

Overall responsibility for the role on this high-profile major project includes:

  • Assist in the planning and procurement of design to ensure achievement of project objectives and KPIs.
  • Monitor design documentation progress against the program and elevate key issues to senior management
  • Input to SiD process and temporary works design as required
  • Manage the RFI process and initiate and manage Design Changes where required. 
  • Coordinate with Design Package Leads to develop safe sustainable technical solutions and identify opportunities for improved sustainable outcome of the technical solution 
  • Work in conjunction with the Design Manager in the development of design budgets and schedules
  • Understand design compliance and reporting procedures and processes 
  • Coordinate the interaction of project members in the design delivery process, including design, construction, planning, estimators and community and stakeholder.  
  • Ensure reviews are completed by relevant members of the Construction Team and comments are appropriately responded by the Design Team
  • Periodic site presence during delivery to assist with confirmation of works in accordance with design documentation and intent 
  • Coordinate timely closure of stakeholder comments to enable package submission
  • Manage work and performance of subcontractors with design responsibility
  • Coordinate stakeholder participation in engagement workshops and comment close out discussions
  • Assist with client and stakeholder expectations and communicate effectively with the project team 
  • Work with Design Package Owners to address stakeholder comments and concerns and deliver required technical outcomes to meet required program.
  • Maintain Design Package Distribution Matrix for communication with Document Control and external stakeholders
  • Review allocated project requirements and work with the designer to establish appropriate evidence to verify inclusion within technical solution.
  • Assist in development of non-conformance documentation where requirements cannot be delivered.

 

To be successful in this key role, you must have / What we are looking for;

 

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Science, Building Construction or equivalent 
  • Working towards Chartership with Engineer’s Australia or equivalent 
  • Post-graduate professional experience in engineering 
  • Experience of technical delivery of design and engineering solutions for tenders and projects, including planning and budget management included demonstrated behaviour in reducing costs
  • Basic knowledge of contractual, legal, commercial, and legislative compliance
  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders of all levels 
  • Knowledge of project management structure, plans, specifications, standards, and implications for project accountabilities 
  • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills
