North Western Program Alliance (NWPA) consists of five Alliance partners – John Holland, KBR, MTM, V/Line and the client (LXRP), working together as one team to achieve shared goals.

We are currently looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to join us.
About the Role;
Whilst you will be initially based on the North Western Program Alliance, this is a long-term career opportunity with John Holland.
As an Engineering Manager, you will provide engineering services including overseeing the preparation of estimates, submission of tenders and recommendations regarding construction techniques, engineering procedures and the utilisation of new technology.
Responsibilities of the role include / What you will do
• Provide engineering services and support to site and project management throughout contract lifecycles.
• Oversee estimates, tender submissions, construction techniques, engineering procedures, and adoption of new technologies.
• Ensure effective engineering delivery by directing Senior Project Engineers, Project Engineers, Design Engineers, and Estimators.
• Review project modification claims and advise on engineering matters.
• Coordinate activities with external engineering consultants.
• Liaise with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and planning authorities to ensure successful project delivery.
• Ensure compliance with legislative, pre-contract, and commercial obligations, including the Building Code.
• Lead engineering governance processes, including technical reviews, design assurance, and risk workshops.
• Oversee design development, review, and approval to ensure compliance with standards and client specifications.
• Manage interface coordination across all disciplines (civil, structural, systems, electrical, etc.).
• Lead Safety in Design (SiD), constructability reviews, and technical risk assessments.
• Maintain engineering registers, decision logs, and assurance records for compliance and traceability.
• Manage resourcing, coach engineers, and foster a high-performance environment.
• Lead in health, safety, environmental, sustainability, and risk management practices.
• Drive adoption of digital engineering tools (e.g., BIM, VDC, Aconex) to enhance design and delivery.
• Champion digital workflows for design coordination, document control, and reporting.
• Support upskilling of the team in digital engineering practices.
To be successful in this key role, we are looking for;
• Degree in Engineering, Science, Building Construction or equivalent degree
• Diploma or Master of Project Management in Engineering Science, Building, Construction or equivalent
• Management of multidisciplinary projects and project teams
• Contemporary practices in design and construction methodology
• Contractual, legal, commercial, industrial relations and legislative compliance management
• Advanced financial management including cost reduction and meeting budgets
• Quantitative and qualitative safety, environment and quality risk management
• Excellent client relationship and stakeholder management
• Management of up to $100m projects
• Experience in Construct Only, Design & Construct, Managing Contract, Alliance, Joint Ventures, Alliances & PPP Contract types
• Experience managing multidisciplinary projects and project teams
• Knowledge of contemporary design and construction methodology
