We are currently looking for an experienced Environmental Advisor to join us, based across our Preston and Glenroy sites.

About the Role


Whilst you will be initially based on the North Western Program Alliance, this is a long-term career opportunity with John Holland.


As an Environmental Advisor, you will be responsible for contributing and providing sound advice on complex issues in relation to on-site environmental management, on both the Preston and Glenroy projects.
You will support and monitor the implementation of the Preston and Glenroy project’s environment programs, working closely with the respective delivery teams, to ensure adherence to environmental legislation, regulations and contractual obligations.

Responsibilities of the role include;


  • Provide environmental guidance, diligence and consistency to internal stakeholders.
  • Provide advice and input into the identification and effective management of environmental risks.
  • Support the implementation and ongoing management of project environmental management systems.
  • Support the communication of environment matters to management and project staff.
  • Support the maintenance of comprehensive environmental records.
  • Identify and initiate localised environment improvement initiatives.
  • Liaise with government bodies and professional organisations on environmental matters as required.
  • Support project induction and environmental management systems/tools training. 
  • Support the communication of environmental roles and responsibilities.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all relevant legal, regulatory and company environmental requirements.
  • Support the communication process to keep management informed of any relevant changes to legal, regulatory and project environmental requirements.
  • Influence a positive Environmental culture across the project and John Holland.  
  • Identify and communicate improvements to corporate and project environmental management processes
  • Perform all duties in accordance with John Holland policies, processes, systems and procedures.

To be successful in this role, you will have;


  • Bachelor’s Degree’s in Environmental Engineering, Science, Sustainability or other associated disciplines
  • Certificate IV in Environment
  • More than 2 years’ experience on-site construction environment management (commercial/civil/infrastructure/rail)
  • Knowledge of compliance and reporting procedures and processes
  • Knowledge of environmental management techniques and tools
  • Knowledge and understanding of low-level incident investigations
  • Reporting, auditing and risk management procedures and processes
  • Reporting environmental performance, compliance, defects and non-compliance
