About the Opportunity

John holland is currently seeking a HSE Specialist with strong project management skills to plan and deliver key Health, Safety, Environmental and Wellbeing projects in our Group HSESW Team. This role is Melbourne based with the flexibility to be based in Sydney or Brisbane. This is a temporary contract commencing March 2021 to October 2022.  


Key responsibilities:

  • Develop delivery and stakeholder engagement plans for allocated HSE Projects that support the execution of the HSE strategy/business plan initiatives 
  • End to End project management of allocated HSE Projects 
  • Utilise change management principles in the completion of projects
  • Collaboratively consult with the wider-business, SMEs, internal and external stakeholders as required
  • Prepare reports and regular reporting in line with Group HSES strategy and reporting requirements
  • Systematically gather and critically analyse data and information as required 
  • Engage and collaborate with stakeholders to develop and continually improve the HSE management system and drive consistent application across the group
  • Support the regular review, development and simplification of John Hollands HSE management system 
  • Support Regions and Projects with the implementation of Group HSE initiatives and campaigns by developing awareness, presentations and supporting documentation 
  • Conduct HSE governance and audit activities, and report on performance as required
  • Research and interpret standards, legislation and codes of practice to develop compliant, practical and operationally relevant HSE systems 
  • Provide technical advice (where required) for operations as it relates to HSE management systems


To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • Bachelor Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environment or other associated disciplines
  • Safety and/ or Environmental Practitioner (7 years) within Construction and/or heavy industry safety, engineering or other associated functional areas
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to effectively plan and execute initiatives and projects 
  • Extensive use and knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental Management systems and procedures (5 years) 
  • Proven experience drafting, writing and reviewing Health & Safety and Environmental procedures
  • Experience analysing and reporting HSE performance data for operational, functional and Executive stakeholders
  • Proven experience in introducing new systems or system improvements through the application of effective change management processes
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and management skills
