Job Description

We are currently looking for an experienced Overhead Wiring & Power Superintendent to join our team based in Spotswood. Reporting to the Overhead Wiring Manager, the role will support our Rail Infrastructure Services business as well as John Hollands Major Projects. We are looking for applicants who have experience in Overhead Wiring Systems as well as experience in traction power substations and civil. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising the Overhead Wiring and Power team in all aspects of Rail Construction as well as liaising with key internal stakeholders. There will be a requirement for nightshift as well as weekend work. Applicants must have strong people skills as well as a minimum of 2 - 5 years experience in a similar role.


Responsibilities of the role will also include;
Oversee the on-site delivery of defined scopes of work on schedule with all stakeholder expectations met.
Provide and take leadership responsibility in health, safety and environment management.
Build strong internal and external stakeholder management through positive, proactive and professional communication to keep key personnel informed.
Manage industrial relations issues and implications and develop appropriate resolution.
Conduct thorough performance management evaluation for direct and indirect reports as defined by the JH Performance Management Development System.
Manage administrative duties for direct and indirect report requirements
Ensure compliance in commercial and financial management including meeting budgets and identifying cost saving measures.
Provide leadership in risk management, identify and mitigate risks prior to works commencing, communicate with and engage relevant stakeholders to control risk and build a risk management culture.
Utilise project planning skills to plan work, monitor implementation and effectiveness to achieve outcomes for quarterly goals.
Review progress against plans, contractual arrangements and delivery milestones to ensure they are on schedule and within quality and cost estimates and take remedial action as required.
Review design documentation, read drawings, provide constructive review and oversee implementation of designs.
Contribute to, seek and implement continuous improvement opportunities.
Perform all duties in accordance with John Holland policies, processes, systems and procedures


To be successful in this key role, you must have;
Trade Qualification Certificate III in Rail Traction
Minimum 5-10 years previous construction experience in a similar role
Experience in industry relevant trade and construction operations of similar scale
People and performance management of subcontractors, suppliers and direct labour
Skill in review of design documentation, ability to understand drawings, provide constructability review and implement final design plans.
Safety and environment management, resource management and construction program and methodology
Metro Trains Melbourne Traction Wiring Systems Experience
Traction Substation Experience
Civil & Building Experience


The following would be advantageous;
Qualifications and training, e.g. Diploma, Building/Construction, Project Management
Year 12 or equivalent.
Support of up to a $20M construction project
2-5 years experience in a Supervisor role
Understanding productivity factors and utilisation planning
Yarra Trams overhead wiring experience
Distribution 22kV overhead wiring experience
