We are currently looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to join us, based on our new Pakenham project - the biggest to date, delivering the removal of three level crossings, new-build superstation at Pakenham and extension of the train line, to a new-build station at Pakenham East.

About the Role

Whilst you will be initially based on the North Western Program Alliance on the Pakenham project, this is a permanent career opportunity with John Holland.


As an Engineering Manager, you will provide engineering services to site management and control. You will coordinate the preparation of engineering estimates for submissions of tenders, including recommendation on engineering design aspects.

Responsibilities of the role include;

•    Provide engineering services to site management during the currency of contracts
•    Oversee the preparation of estimates, submission of tenders and recommendations regarding construction techniques, engineering procedures and the utilisation of new technology
•    Ensure effective provision of engineering services to project management during the currency of contracts mainly through directing the efforts of Senior Project Engineers, Project Engineers, Design Engineers and Estimators
•    Examine project modification claims where requested and advise on related engineering matters
•    Coordinate the activities of outside engineering consultants
•    Liaise with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers and planning authorities to ensure satisfactory completion of major structures and construction work
•    Ensure legislative, pre-contract and commercial obligations are met, including compliance with the relevant Building Code
•    Demonstrate people management by assisting with resourcing to ensure projects have the capability to achieve targets, manage and coach engineers and foster a high performance working environment
•    Exhibit outstanding leadership in health, safety, environmental and risk management, compliance and auditing
•    Perform all duties in accordance with John Holland policies, processes, systems, reporting and procedures


To be successful in this role, you will have;

•    Degree in Engineering, Science, Building Construction or equivalent degree 
•    Diploma or Master’s of Project Management in Engineering Science, Building, Construction or equivalent
•    Management of multidisciplinary projects and project teams
•    Contemporary practices in design and construction methodology 
•    Contractual, legal, commercial, industrial relations and legislative compliance management
•    Advanced financial management including cost reduction and meeting budgets
•    Quantitative and qualitative safety, environment and quality risk management
•    Excellent client relationship and stakeholder management
•    Management of up to $100m projects
•    Experience in Construct Only, Design & Construct, Managing Contract, Alliance, Joint Ventures, Alliances & PPP Contract types
•    Ability to travel to and work on-site in Pakenham
•    You need to be able to meet any requirements which are necessary to safely perform your role (e.g. receiving a COVID-19 vaccination pursuant to a relevant health order or by clients, or as otherwise required)
