About the Project

 

John Holland has been named as the preferred contractor to deliver the North-East Link, Hoddle St to Bourke Road package of works. The Momentum Alliance is made up of John Holland, Seymour Whyte and design 

partners Mott MacDonald and Jacobs Group, in partnership with MRPV.


The scope of works includes upgrading six kilometres of the Freeway with new traffic lanes, bridge upgrades and urban noise walls, a dedicated busway (fully segregated from mainline traffic), and a new bridge 

over the Yarra River.


The NEL Project involves the design and construction of the upgrade of the Eastern Freeway from Hoddle Street in the west to Burke Road in the east, including:

 

6km of brownfield freeway widening to accommodate additional traffic lanes in each direction
3km dedicated busway separated from mainline traffic
Significant structures including 600m of bridges, including a 180m architectural steel shared use path bridge of the Yarra River
Freeway-wide scope including ITS, retaining walls, stormwater drainage, noise walls, lighting and signage

 

Site location to be around Chandler Highway / Eastern Freeway interchange.

About the Role

 

Manage and co-ordinate a Ground Penetration Permit (GPP) system (or also referred to as an excavation permit system) for all works where ground is broken.  


This position is a project wide role which interfaces with each of the precincts’ teams.


All our employees have a key role in ensuring the success of NEL’s health, safety, environmental & quality management program and to fulfil this, each person must adopt the Projects core safety and environmental values.

What you will do;

 

Prepare GPP documentation as required by precinct teams. This involves requesting Dial Before You dig documents, GIS information.  These documents will form the basis of the GPP process.

 

Co-ordinate and consult with asset owners to ensure all requirements and approvals are achieved.

 

Communicate with Engineers to positively identify all known services in a nominated GPP work zone.

 

Positive identification of services shall be in accordance with the asset owners’ requirements.

 

Co-ordinate with Engineers to ensure they pick up services once they’re positively identified and add to the GIS model.

 

Include site briefings with all work force for specific task in the nominated area that the GPP permit applies.

 

Execute working knowledge of contractual and legislation relevant to the project.

 

For services strikes, participate in the incident reporting and root cause analyse with the safety team.

 

Sign off on Hold Points in the GPP process.

 

Identify and record any unknown/redundant services and notify relevant asset owner.

 

Participate in GPP system audits as required.

 

Ensure legislative, pre-contract and commercial obligations are met, including compliance with the relevant Building Code.

 

Stakeholder management: Ensure that stakeholders are actively engaged and that beneficial relationships between the project and the client, subcontractors, community and other external parties are developed and maintained.

 

People management: Demonstrate sound people management skills by managing work and performance of project teams and subcontractors to achieve outcomes.

 

Review specific high risk planned works to be undertaken to ensure compliance with a method of work.

 

Collaborate with project precincts to develop solutions to improve safety performance, process productivity and to monitor permit effectiveness

 

What we are looking for;

 

Qualifications    

 

Tertiary qualifications Construction / Safety / Engineering Discipline. 

Previous work in a Rail environment would be desirable.

Demonstrated skills in programming, cost control, quality assurance, safety and supervision / people management.


Experience    

 

Demonstrated site based engineering experience across large Tier 1 infrastructure projects.
Project Engineer and operational experience – especially with managing services
Project wide level of planning, development and review of complex projects.
Delivery of minor projects to program and budget specifications.
Effective time management skills including sequencing of work of own and resource management. 
Advanced skills in relevant computer software packages; Microsoft Suite; Primavera 6.
Strong written, verbal and presentation skills.
Ability to work under pressure in a complex environment.
Competency in interpreting technical schedules and documentation.
